Chelsea have been fined £33,300 fine and manager Jose Mourinho has been handed an £8,900 fine and two-match touchline ban at a Uefa disciplinary hearing in Nyon, Switzerland.

The charges relate to Chelsea's Champions League tie against Barcelona at the Nou Camp on 23 February.

Mourinho claimed he saw Frank Rijkaard speaking to referee Anders Frisk and acccused the Swedish official of being influenced by his chat with the Barcelona coach.

A UEFA statement said: "Having listened to evidence presented by the disciplinary inspector and by Chelsea FC, the Control and Disciplinary Body decided to impose a two-match suspension and a fine of CHF 20,000 on Chelsea FC manager José Mourinho. Chelsea FC were fined CHF 75,000. Les Miles and Steve Clarke were each reprimanded. The above decisions may be appealed against within three days of UEFA informing the club in writing of the reasoning.

"As far as the touchline ban is concerned, Article 70 para 2 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations states: 'A team manager/coach who is suspended from carrying out his function may follow the match for which he is suspended from the stands only. He is not allowed in the dressing room, tunnel or technical area before and during the match nor is he allowed to get in contact with his team.'"

Chelsea PLC chairman Bruce Buck said: "We are not overly happy with the decision but we respect it," said Buck.

"I think the panel the took view that there was a misunderstanding in the statements we made - but that they were made in good faith and the club and the persons who made those statements continue to believe that.

"In large part the situation has been blown out of proportion but this was a serious matter and we're hoping to put it behind us.

"The whole club respects Anders Frisk's integrity and we are very sorry about the situation that developed.

"If our security people are able to develop any information about those people who have been harassing him, we will turn it over to the authorities."

Mourinho will now have to sit in the stand for both Champions League quarter-final legs against Bayern Munich on 6 and 12 April.

___________

Well I suppose justice is served in this case, and UEFA was never going to boot Chelsea out of the Champions League. Bayern Munich might feel lucky that Mourinho will not be coaching the team from the sidelines, and it might give them a bit of an advantage.

Usually when coaches get red carded or suspended they keep in touch with their assistant via a cell phone during the match, and I hope this wont be allowed for Mourinho.

Why cant UEFA giv out fines like the NBA does, like 1.5 mil $, or 45 matches :D

P.S. Like I already said, I have a feeling Bayern will knock them out.

Exactly. Now that's a punishment, not pocket change and seat in the VIP section.

For all the Mourinho detractors who continue to salivate for the moment he gets his come-uppance (and they keep waiting... and waiting... and waiting...), this sounds a lot more like wishful thinking.

The punishment seems fair. Though I would have liked to have seen part of the raparations include some show of support for the development of UEFA referees. That would have been even more fitting for the crime.

But the sweet thing is that we won't see the monkey for at least 2 games in this CL
Not quit. I'm sure the camera will be on him somewhere with the crowds.

Because the NBA has 82 game seasons, and the league minimum in the NBA is $850,000.

The players that were fined 1.5 M$ were the players that make over 25 M$ a year.

    P.S. - I like -Z- again.

I wonder if European football players will ever get to that kind of salary level. It's interesting how baseball and basketball starts make so much money.

Hopefully,as Z mentioned, this means that Mourinho will not be able to talk to his team through mobile like I've seen in other occasions.
