Oh and will someone tell Chiellini that if he's not under pressure to stop shooting the ball out/corner and just calm down and play wise...

Oh Momo, why?
I expected a monster performance from him. Losing him is the last thing we needed.
While it is bad news, I'm not overly concerned about it for this game. It is obviously bad news to be without him for over a month.

Chelsea will sit back and make it hard to break them down. Poulsen's better passing may be just what is required to move the ball faster and find some space.

so is Marchisio out of this game? I don't think Tiago and Poulsen can hold it.
I was hoping for Marchisio/Sissoko partnership.

btw Im sure Anelka will play, he was just "rested"..

Our chance could be carvalho or essien as none of them are fully fit (if they play)

I'd prefer Marchisio and Poulsen over Tiago in place of either one of them. I am sorry but Tiago doesn't do anything for me. Both Marchisio/Poulsen run hard, very hard plus both are decent passers, I am just not fond of Tiago at all. Loosing Sissoko is not as bad as it sounds as we have cover. I would hate to lost DP, Chiellini or Buffon. I hope Nedved can prolong his CL career this week. He knows this could very well be his last CL game and I don't think he wants to end it in the knock out stages, we could see a huge game out of our Czech Fury this week.

Momo's injury is a big loss. No doubt about it. He wasn't great in the first fixture against chelsea, but his robustness did manage to wear down, and into, their midfield. On his game, he can be a constant very mobile menace. As we all know...At least we can be sure now that Marchisio will be starting the match. Thats the only silver lining to this doom cloud.

I hope the reports of the derby game I read were accurate in suggesting a return to form for Chiellini, because his performance in this one is going to be of ultra importance. He must keep Drogba quiet, caged, moaning but not scoring. He is capable of that, I have seen him do it to better players than the Ivorian. The players who partner him in the middle and fill the right back spot are up for debate presently...

Buffon
Grygera Legro Chiellini Molinaro

If Legro is fit. If not, I assume Mellberg will start in the middle in his place. Shame Zebina the madman isn't yet match fit, though I hope to see him enter the fray at some point, hopefully when we are winning and it will be safe enough to give him a chance to run amok.

Midfield seems hard to judge also. Marchisio and Nedved without doubt. That channel four report was the first I heard of Marchisio's injury. So I am currently unsure of his availability. The same goes for MArchionni...I will be happy if he is injured. Because we will be forced to play on the floor, through the middle, and Giovinco could be included. The only other player who could take up a spot on the right wing, with camo and marchionni sidelined, is Brazzo...And thankfully, he isn't fit enough yet to play from the start. So maybe

Tiago Poulsen Nedved
Giovinco
Trezeguet Del Piero

That would be interesting. But unless Giovinco is going to play in the hole, as an attacking midfielder, he shouldn't be started. Because he will get mashed in the central midfield struggles for the ball. Further up the field, he will still get mashed, but he will earn us free kicks which del piero can pop past Cech.

Without Giovinco from the start...
Tiago Poulsen Nedved
Amauri Trezeguet Del Piero

Still, I hope for Marchisio.

With Marchisio, Chiellini, Buffon, and one of our attackers showing his quality, we could win this game.

Why does everyone want to play 4-3-1-2?

We are not accustomed to playing that system and we haven't done well when we have played it.

To break down a tight defence, you need to make the pitch as big as possible and that means that we must have width in out game.

Buffon

Grygera-Mellberg-Chiellini-Molinaro

Marchionni-Marchisio-Poulsen-Nedved

Trezeguet-Del Piero

Marchionni played well against Chelsea in London, so deserves a chance in this game if he is fit.

We mustn't start too aggressively. Play our normal game (though hopefully at a higher standard that normal) in the first half. Changes can be made to players and formations in the second half as circumstances dictate.

I would like to see Marchisio instead of Tiago as Marchisio is reallly turning into a great midfielder. As for Tiago, no thank you. Regardless of injuries I still want to see a trident, I hope Ranieri does't go for a shootout and goes for the 2-0 win. We really need to be able to keep them pressured at the back and the best way to do that is with 3 strikers storming Normandy for 90 minutes. If the midfield is Marchisio-Poulsen-Neddy that is 3 very hard runners that will make things difficult for any counter attack they throw at us. Please no Brazzo or Marchionni for this match.

Chiellini needs to be on for this game. We can guarantee those 3 midfielders to run their asses off (especially Pavel as he does't want this to be his last game). If anyone, I really think Nedved will be our wild card for this game, he is the one most wanting to advance and move on the CL, he will be up for it as it could very well be his last Champions League game.

Forza Pavel

CR waits too long to make changes. I think the best way to play this game is not through the midfield but rather our offense constantly annoying their defense. Besides, they will most likely be sitting back soaking up pressure to maintain their goal advantage

I am just dreaming of Giovinco using this game to announce himself to the galaxy as a gifted individual. Your are Right, Red. We do need to stretch the play. At their place we suffered with the compact nature of the pitch. I don't know about the fitness of certain players. But I do agree that, despite my dreams, we haven't looked great in that system, when Ranieri has rolled that dice. Perhaps 4-4-2 is safer. Chelsea fans seemed to think MArchionni caused problems when he came on in the first leg, and I agree that he looked lively, had a shot that flew not far of target, which was better than or equal to del piero's across the face of goal effort, and Trezeguet's silly volley late on in the match. I don't think Ashley Cole likes Marco, which could be good news for us if Ashley gets a bit shaken up. But I don't rate Marchionni. On a good day for Cole, he could be easily rendered useless...Whereas on a good day for Camo, Cole would be humiliated...

If the scores are level later in the game, I would definitely like to see Giovinco. But we will be safer tactically, if we stick to the 4-4-2 system we have bee using for the majority of the season. It did beat madrid home and away...but our form has changed so savagely since those golden days, that I really don't see a huge problem for going wild with a 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1. We are losing. Our 4-4-2 system has looked stale for the last two months. Not once has it dominated a match from start to finish...Since december 2008.

I reckon RAnieri will play it safe with the 4-4-2. But be more than willing to go for a 4-3-2-1 or 4-3-3, if the game wears on and it seems clear that the 4-4-2 is getting us nowhere.

It's more vulnerable than having Sissoko there, but with Iaquinta and Nedved playing a bit more centrally I think it will be the best we can do. The alternative for me would be this:

Poulsen
Tiago Marchisio
Nedved
Trezeguet Del Piero

That the best option we got imo!..

And for sec half we could throw Gio insted of Tiago or Neddy, depends on how they play.. And Amauri insted of Trez.
