Hey evry1.

Ive been watching champions league on espn for around 10 years now, and i don't know about any1 else but i really dnt like watching a game like for example, Liverpool vs Bordoux or anything like that were liverpool is a team that always finish 4th in epl, it gives no credit to becoming CHAMPION.

I think european competition should be revamped, make it more entertaining. I am of italian decent and am a juventus fan, but last yr when milan played liverpool in final, there were some italians juventini who were going for liverpool just so milan dont win. This is wrong. You should support your country and my system if it or anything similar ever got through to uefa, would ensure that every team represents there country. Here is my system

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

There are 48 countries in europe. You seed the best 20. The winner of the best 20 leagues across europe go direct into the champions league. The remaining 28 teams, play off against another team. 14 games. 14 winners. 2 too many right? The lowest ranked winners of this along with the 14 losing teams go into UEFA CUP. Thus CHAMPIONS LEAGUE is a 32 team full of CHAMPION sides from across europe, and makes it one team per country.

UEFA CUP.

There are already 14 losing sides from champions league qualifying, plus the 2 lowest ranked winning sides, making this 16 teams.
UEFA should then consider the latest european coefficients, see which are the 4 best leagues the previous year. then those teams who finish 2nd,3rd,4th,5th qualify for uefa cup. Say La Liga, SerieA, EPL, Bundesliga get 4 teams each plus the 16 champions league remaining teams, 32 team league, with powerful teams and teams who deserve to be amongst europe without getting a free ride into champions league. This would strengthen the UEFA Cup and bring it back to the glory tournament it once was.

CUP WINNERS CUP
Lets bring it back!
Under my system, the winners of the domestic cups do not get a passage into UEFA CUP. We bring back this cup and make it a lucerative cup, that fans im sure would love to see back. Besides the English FA Cup i dnt see any of the other cups across europe being seen as a very important title anymore, maybe this is because of the lack of incentive in this current system. This would make cups like the coppa italia worth playing and coaches would not field there reserve or under 14 teams to play.

Thats my system, wb, let me know what you;s think

Thing is, most of us here aren't Italian so we really have no reason to support Milan in the CL.

Id say Inter.A team should go into the CL on the basis of the previous year's league performance. Not the previous year's CL performance. The Liverpool thing was a joke.

So? I see nothing wrong with this. Do you want Milan to be more succesfull than Juve in Europe? Why should I support Milan to win any trophies while Juve are not even in the competition? Fuck Milan and their 7 Champion League trophies. Forza anyone who beats them in this year´s competition.

why should you allow to enter directly group stages of CL or at least UEFA cup teams who are champion of Albania, Cyprus, etc instead of 2nd and 3rd placed team in Italy, England, Spain, etc. Quality of CL would be lower with this system you propose

He asks something about changing the CL format and Gsol's pantyhose attacks him for something else.

Well wouldnt the new format make that happen more often..i mean isnt the whole point of it, giving winners of lower leagues more of a chance in the CL

First of all, I didn´t attack him, I stated my opinion.

Second of all, he mentioned that thing, it´s not like I made that up just so I can attack him.

Third of all, it´s not my fault Gsol owned you. So, if you cannot wreak on Gsol, don´t do it on me.

for me the champions league should be for the CHAMPIONS of each country and at a push 2nd place teams from the top leagues. i will tell you why i feel this way

firstly- all the champions league in its current format has done is to further polarise the top clubs in each league from the rest. the result?the same teams winning the league all the time, no longer could an aston villa, derby county, notts forest win the english premier again.
top leagues have become monotonous. the french league is a prime example, for years it was the one league where just about anyone could win it. remember nantes winning the title and then fighting relegation all the next season?
by limiting the number of clubs entering the money-spinning champions league, smaller clubs would have a chance of competing against the big-boys again

secondly-it would give a massive boost to football in the smaller countries, why would you want to move from red star to.....say lazio, when red star offer champions league football?
sure, certain prestige clubs (juve, milan, bayern, liverpool)would still attract top players even if they missed out on the CL but it would be harder for mid-range clubs like roma, lazio to poach other leagues top players.
imagine red star having another golden generation, ajax being able to mould a team together, etc?it would certanly shake things up a bit

I think the current format is perfect.
People keep complaining that it favours the Top Leagues' teams, but they forget that, it's not a rule that the Top leagues are given. If let's say Croatia's teams keep doing great in European stage, they get to be considered the "top league" and eventually they'll get to send 4 teams to CL, instead of let's say France. You know what I'm saying?

The main idea of CL is to include the strongest teams, even tho it's called Champions League, but c'mon Serie A's 4th place would beat almost any team outside the top 5 leagues.

The quality of the CL would dip for only 1-2 years max if the new system is introduced. As the smaller teams get more money from playing the CL they can buy better and better players. and thus be able to compete for the big boys. I'm all for the new system of having only champions (and maybe 2nd place teams) in the CL.

And the new system would make the UEFA Cup more interesting. Imagine instead of having teams like Palermo, West Ham, and Villareal you get say as an example Milan, Liverpool, Valencia, and Roma. makes it more interesting.

And how about making the champions "league" a champions LEAGUE where everyone plays everyone twice a season and the winner is the team that gets more points than anyone else at the end ?
That way the best and most consistent team will be the European champion , not the team that plain sucks for 7 months and wins the league because of two great months (read: Milan of last year, Liverpool of 2005 and 2007)

Make the domestic leagues smaller, with 14 teams. The champs of the best 6 leagues go directly into CL while the champs of the smaller leagues and the second placed of the top5 leagues play qualifiers.
That way we make a champions league of 16 teams where everyone plays against everyone.

That will give 26 matches in the domestic league+30 matches in champions league. 56 matches is not much more than what the best teams play nowdays with the current system.

Plus, UEFA Cup gets on quality.

It's never going to happen though. Countries like Spain, England and Italy will not allow only 2 teams to play CL.
