It wasn't offside.

Good call by the linesmen.

We got, for the lack of a better word, obliterated.

Different game plan next week hopefully. Bring the fight to them, we can't try and absorb attacks. Not from a team like this. They'll kill us like they did today.

It's not. And even if he were in offside, Buffon didn't deflect the ball, he pushed it with intention to the side and made a mistake, which means he played him onside. It's all in the rules guys, read them.
It is offside. It doesn't matter Buffon reflected the ball. Time of the shooting is important. In this situation it counts as passing the ball.

Tuttosport "Siamo al 63' quando un tiro dalla distanza di Gustavo impegna Buffon; sulla ribattuta si avventa Mandzukic (in fuorigioco) che serve al centro Mueller per il più facile dei tap-in vincenti."

Look at Chiellini's foot behind him. Not an offside.

If Buffon in purpose pushes to ball to the side it means that it's a new situation and everyone is played onside. If it's a deflection it does't count as a new situation.

Buffon pushed it to the side on purpose, he was in control of that ball.

Offside or not doesn't matter. We're arguing the nickel and iron content in the spikes driven into Jesus Christ's hands for his crucifixion. :andyandbarcelona:

No those are not the rules. Shooting is like passing the ball. Check it up. It was offside. Doesn't matter Buffon reflected the ball. What if someone tried to pass to a player in offside position and Buffon touched the ball?

I was sure it was offiside in real time but after a replay or two, think it was too close to call and giving advantage to the attacking player, when not certain, is within the rules.

in the above pic, one can see how Mandzukic's head - the most forward part of his body with which he can score - is actually very much in line with the defender's trailing foot.

Shooting is like passing the ball, if you pass the ball to an opposing defender who gains control of it and then pushes it out to the striker who was in a offside position when you passed it, it's not an offside.

I believe it's offside if you're head is past the defender.
That's right.

Buffon didn't have control of it. And in many situations that would be an offside also.

Spot on :D

Nice use of language there, *clap*
If called offsides, Bayern would have continued to press hard and we could have conceded two more for a 3-0 finish. And who here is gonna doubt that could happen after what we all witnessed tonight?

So the point is really irrelevant.

2-0 is a gentle result considering the ass pillaging we suffered :agree:

Seriously, 5-0 wouldn't have been unfair.
