I don't dispute that part. Although I'm not sure if refs are given clear guidelines of what "clear and obvious" error means. I was just commenting on the foul. I don't think it was a foul. The initial call was a mistake too IMO.

Is that a serious question?
No.

But Dortmund losing 4-0 to Ajax is appallingly bad.

Leipzig losing narrowly away to PSG is what it is. But there's no excuse for Dortmund.

The guidelines are clear: If the call is already given it can only be retracted if the ref made an obvious error. He didn’t make an obvious error. He was clearly pushed from behind.

Ajax seems to be on fire. scored 11 goals so far and conceded only 1.
4-0 is a bit too much though.

Let's agree to disagree here

Dortmund on paper shouldn't lose 4-0 to Ajax.

Hummels, Meunier, Witsel, Reus and Håland are all quality.

I guess it comes down to mentality.
Agreed, no excuse to lose so bad but also Ajax aren't some buttomfeeders. They are a dangerous club on their best days.

But lose core players to your team every year and tell me how long that winning mentality lasts.

Of course. No one ever talks about the help Liverpool have gotten over the year in the Champions League. Even when they won back in 2005 they had so much help troughout the whole tournament. They wouldn’t have made the miracle in Istanbul without help from the ref.

The rule:

“A video assistant referee (VAR) is a match official who may assist the referee to make a decision using replay footage only for a 'clear and obvious error' or 'serious missed incident' relating to a goal/no goal, penalty/no penalty, direct red card (not a second caution) or a case of mistaken identity when the referee cautions or sends off the wrong player of the offending team”

I get your point.

But Dortmund also needs to stop being that feeder club for everyone if they want to take the next step. Much of it comes down to ambition and doing things at the right time.

They're maybe the best club at discovering talented players, but keeping hold on them is another thing. They need to show they're more than just that.
