Because Thiago, Fabinho and Keita are not capable to send numerous of perfect long passes, they are not Pirlo, Xabi or any other top deep lying midfielder who was able to send homing long passes. No. They way he can make players to overperform, to play above their level, is unmatched

Not till the keeper acted like Sczescny but they were not able to play with the same intensity in the second half.

They lack quality. Like Bayern and Juventus, Liverpool believed this would be a cake walk and did not bother in the first half. Both Juve and Bayern should have battered them. Being 2-0 against Liverpool should not undermine Juve's and Bayern's utter failure of a performance.

Obviously: Villareal sat to deep in the 2nd half and let Liverpool into the game. They looked increasingly tired also. The Diaz change made a big difference instead of the static Jota. He always seem to stretch the opposition and create space for his teammates.

Because they couldn't, not because they just decided to sit back. They tried to press high and move the ball around but Liverpool upped their intensity and concentration levels and they couldn't get out of their half anymore.
