They are threatening to use anti-trust laws to block it. Maybe @Seven can explain better if it would work or not.
I don't think this would work. The market of football as a whole is still open. A super league would make the rich clubs richer, sure, but in theory there would be alternative products.

Surely if anything anti trust laws would work against UEFA in this case?

I'll be full on cheering for Real Madrid to win this year's competition. I mean the other semi-finalists are PSG (Qatar money-laundering machine and UEFA bitches), Manchester City and Chelsea who were the first two English clubs to pull out of the super league? Easy decision for me.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I'll root them in the future as well, if we were to get out before them that is.

An antitrust lawsuit would not prosper. Consumers would still have alternative choices to enjoy football, and clubs could still participate in other competitions/federations.

There are plenty of precedents that would not allow to block the ESL, even where one company would have an absurd amount of market share (dominant position). As long as the above mentioned rights are not restricted, it would not be considered an anti competitive practice.

Sauce: I wrote a thesis on antitrust and merger control.

Clubs listened to their fans after making a massive mistake that everyone hated. What absolute pieces of shit, let's hope they lose.

Agreed.

I'm not an expert on antitrust, but I think the legal position here is pretty obvious.

@Salvo : they might work against UEFA though, yes.

how can you be so gullible?
which club gives two shits about the fans. It’s all about the money. It always has, always will.

I lost alot of interest in the CL long before Juve were kicked out. Even thought I still want them to win it more than anything.

I just think it has lost it's magic despite there being some really entertaining games in the last number of years.

I'm not exactly sure what's changed maybe it's just football in general and that there are few likeable characters left playing for the top clubs.
