Relegation strugglers Cesena have won two, drawn six and lost seven of their fixtures at the Dino Manuzzi this season.
The Seahorses began their home campaign with two consecutive defeats: 3-1 against Napoli and 2-1 at the hands of Lazio. Things got better courtesy of three successive draws, two in goalless shutouts against Chievo and Fiorentina, before Cagliari were held 1-1.
Lecce then emerged victorious from Cesena’s sixth fixture on home soil. But new coach Daniele Arrigoni followed up the team’s first three points in Bologna by overseeing a 2-0 home success over Genoa.
A narrow defeat to Inter preceded the Seahorses’ second victory of the campaign, in which they overcame Novara 3-1. Rinaudo’s own goal added to Mutu’s double, handing the hosts a much needed win in their battle to avoid relegation.
Cesena have been unable to overturn their fortunes in the second round of fixtures. Draws against Catania, Parma and Bologna have been weighed down by defeats against Atalanta, Milan and Siena.
Mario Beretta’s arrival in the dugout has sparked a mini-revival, with the Seahorses’ draw in Genova seeing them go four games unbeaten.
