Who cast the first stone in this conflict? Wasn't it Georgian troops firing upon Russian "Peacekeepers :gsol:"?

Whatever the case, this is not very good whatsoever. It seems as if Russia wants to stop losing the land of their allies, so this is the first course of action since they lost Kosova to the United States. So what's the next course of action for the Russians?

Now the Russians are starting to bomb Poti, a port city with a lot of oil. They're also bombing pretty close to the BTC Pipeline, the premier pipeline that transports 2 million barrels of crude to the West every single day.

You know, Bush is sitting their right now in Beijing watching swimming while this stuff is going on. The Russians are going to take back Georgia and the West is going to be sorry about that. Too bad nobody seems like they want to address this issue until it's too late.

Hmm yep,but it would be too complicated to get involved imo.
But the least people could do is pressure Russia to stop the attacks in some fashion. I don't know how that would be possible though because Medvedev doesn't trust the UN, so any facet of that organization won't make a difference. The best bet is always economic sanctions as most wars are fought over economic concerns, and this is potentially another example of that as Russia would love to interrupt crude flow to the West and also have a win against the Democracy-loving US.

That BTC Pipeline is only five years old IIRC but it's a crucial part of the West's petroleum infrastructure. You know, I don't believe Russia receives any crude from the pipeline despite it flowing through their former states. So I wonder if they would be considering an accidental bombing/mishap blamed on fighting between the two nations in question to partially disrupt the crude flow to the West. Now if that were to happen, Europeans and the US would probably have no choice but to get involved.

I don't know if the Russians would be crazy enough to do such a thing, but I also don't know how many people understand the importance of Georgia in the present day. The US government probably understands, but Bush doesn't seem to care.

I feel if Oil did get disrupted, then action would be taken,on the other hand I really don't feel Russia are that stupid enough to do that.

Well, who knows what they're thinking. I didn't think my country would be stupid enough to go to war just for oil, but now I wouldn't put much past them. Russia was building a trillion dollar underground megabase from 1991 on while stating they were broke and while receiving millions a year from the US for nuclear weapons disarmament. Who knows really.

Knowbody knows realy,In the same instance I diden't think Blair was so much up Bush's ass to follow him to a meaningful war just for Oil,but heck our Country can thank Margaret Thatcher for that she blew most of our North Sea Oil so were dependant on other countries now.

Yep,Maybe he also saw the riches to be made in Iraq,But if it meant keeping a strong alliance with America by going into Iraq,so be it,cause when times get tuff for either country I'm glad we can call on the Support from USA,and I feel the feeling is the same amongst the Americans.
