Massimo Carrera believes Juventus must continue to improve if they are to successfully fend off their rivals for the Serie A title.
The Bianconeri have burst out the traps at a blistering pace this season - registering four victories from their first four Serie A games - but the first-team coach is adamant the chasing pack will soon start to give the defending champions a run for their money.
Speaking from a press conference in Vinovo, Carrera said: “We’ve only played four championship fixtures. Yes, the other teams have started badly, but they also have time to improve and will do so accordingly. There’s also plenty to develop from our point of view and we’ll try to work on this as much as possible.”
After returning to home comforts in Saturday night’s 2-0 win over Chievo, Juventus will take to the road again for tomorrow evening’s clash with Fiorentina in Florence.
Fixtures between the two sides have often been feisty affairs but Carrera is adamant the Bianconeri will have no problems in dealing with the atmosphere.
“As far as I’m concerned it’s business as usual. When you’re on the field and playing, you don’t think about what’s happening off it. It’s a game just like all the others and I’m sure the players will have the same mindset.”
Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella has enjoyed a positive start to life in the Viola dugout, racking up seven points from four games since assuming the reins at the Artemio Franchi.
And Carrera is aware the hosts will be keen to put on a good show in front of their own supporters.
“We’ll be up against a team who will want to bring an end to our unbeaten run. We’ll need to show the desire to take the game to our opposition. That’s our spirit and the way we play. We’ll go there to win, we never settle for a result and if we manage to score three or four goals, we’ll do just that.”
The 48-year-old concluded by expressing his satisfaction at the attacking options at his disposal before reserving special praise for Saturday’s two-goal hero Fabio Quagliarella.
“Our squad won the championship last season and we have strikers who are showing themselves to be top players. We don’t need anyone else. I’m very happy with Fabio’s work.”
