There are rumours that Sunderland are pursuing Juventus defensive star Giorgio Chiellini and are considering a vast offer.

Chiellini was linked with Manchester City last summer but the Old Lady decided to keep hold of the Tuscan ace.

And the decision paid off as Chiellini enjoyed a superb season with Juve and earned a place at Euro 2008.

Despite the 23-year-old’s importance in Turin, there are reports in Tuttosport that Sunderland are ready to launch a vast bid to try and prise him away.

While Chiellini is seen by many as the heir to Juve’s defensive throne and has become a vital element with Dario Knezevic, Jorge Andrade and Cristian Molinaro injured, the Black Cats are reportedly ready to put £10m on the table.

Since arriving from Fiorentina in 2005, Chiellini has played nearly 100 games for the Bianconeri and has 13 Azzurri caps to his name.
