Manchester City and Everton will fight it out for the signature of Leighton Baines if Wigan succeed in signing replacement full-back Paul Robinson from West Brom.

Baines is one of England’s hottest prospects at left-back and has attracted attention from all corners of the country after an excellent two seasons in the Premiership with Wigan and a good showing in the European Under-21 Championships in Holland this summer.

Last week a proposed move to Sunderland came to an end despite the Black Cats’ offer of £6million seemingly being enough to secure their man.

Everton are seen as front-runners in the race to sign Baines who is a life-long Toffee’s fan, but as yet David Moyes has failed to reach the reported asking price.

Sven Goran Eriksson (pictured) is also in the market for a left-sided full-back and is interested in Juventus youngster Giorgio Chiellini, but with Juve hesistent to let the star go, the Swede may look to Baines as he continues to strengthen his squad.

Wigan manager Chris Hutchings has renewed his interest in West Brom defender Paul Robinson, sparking many media sources to conclude that it is a sure sign that Baines is on the way out of the JJB Stadium. It may be a case of defensive reinforcements for Hutchings, but at £2.2million, the player may be seen as too expensive to be a bench-warmer.

There is a rumours in Bulgaria, who according that two or three days ago,Giorgio Chellini calls to Valeri Bojinov and tolds him:
-Hello,Valeri,come and join with me in Manchester City.
The secret informer of this conversation is a "friend of the bulgarian".
Fact is that Valeri tomorow surely will join Manchester City.
For me there is a little truth, but who knows.

"Direi proprio di no"

Giorgio Chiellini’s agent has revealed that the Juventus defender is hoping to join Manchester City this week.

The former Azzurrini full-back was linked with Liverpool in recent weeks and seems set to leave the Serie B champions after stating that he felt neglected by the club.

Reports in Italy last week suggested that he had become a target for Manchester City, as Sven Goran Eriksson hoped to add the defender to the Italian contingent formed by Rolando Bianchi and Bernardo Corradi.

“I will soon meet Juventus to discuss Giorgio’s future,” said Davide Lippi. “We all hope that he will soon join Manchester City.

“The problem is that in transfer negotiations there always is a club who sells and one that buys, so I cannot possibly know how this will end.

“Chiellini would be thrilled to play in the Premier League with City, but everything depends on Juventus, on the final price and on their will to let him leave or not.”

Manuele Blasi has also been paired with an English move, as the Bianconeri are reducing their squad, but Lippi does not believe that Eriksson’s team will be his next destination.

“Will Blasi’s future be at City with Chiellini? I really don’t think so,” concluded the agent.

A decisive week, the futures of Chiellini and Heinze. Despite Gigli stating that Chiellini would be staying at Juve, the club is seriously thinking of selling the young defender of the U21 National Team. The last offer of 12m euros from Man City has been put forward to the bianconera management. Thaksin Shinawatra, new president of Man City, wants to please Eriksson. He has described Chiellini as an indispensable pawn on his tactical chessboard, the defender amongst other things has the desire to play in the EPL. This transfer could well go through as Secco is expected to travel to England, but he wants to sort out Legrottaglie's future first, as he is taking his time on wether to move to Besiktas or not. Davide Lippi (agent of Chiellini) will travel also to Manchester, so this is a sign that the end is near.
Juventus have temporarily blocked the transfer of Criscito to Genoa and will continue tracking Meira, Senderos and Heinze. The latter has caught the eye of the bianconeri, he would cost less than 10 million and would be easy to take as Ferguson has stated he would not stand in his way. Gigli has also confirmed interest, "Heinze? the squad is already strong, but we will see. I will speak with Ranieri and Secco."
The bianconeri are also interested in Lokomotiv Moscow's Branislav Ivanovic, captain of U21 Serbian National Team.
For Boumsong, an offer has been received by Valencia.
Secco still needs to work on Blasi's future, as Udinese, Man City and Wolfsburg are interested.
Zalayeta and Olivera are also on the departure list.

:disagree:

We don't even fucking know what's going on. This fucking board is utterly TERRIBLE at keeping players happy. Perhaps Ranieri is as well. We can't keep making it seem we don't care about our better players.

Stupid fucking board.
