He is right, Chiellini had a poor game as did most of our defence, but they got no help from midfield. They were pressured high and badly needed someone in midfield to offer passing option and ability to hold up ball to give them breathing space from being besieged, like Pogba did with little effort (plus intensely pressure opponents). Instead now Chiellini had Sturaro in front of him who couldn't do zilch, even when he tried passing back he messed up, twice he passed ball to throw in instead of defender...

And so called super experienced big name Khedira was even bigger joke.

That statement makes sense when you realize he doesn't necessarily mean Pogba is the best (tho one of the best, and certainly is overly brand marketed as a super star), but he is unique in football in similar way as James is as a player. Super athletic beast who is very complete as player. Offers hugely intense physical presence, defending, passing, and attacking means he has all the necessary qualities you need.

That our midfield misses a complete asset like that is insanely clear, regardless of how much we like to dismiss him after he left.

He is no good in 3 man defense when we need to keep the ball. it was always like that, but he was able to put any CF in his pocket, win ball back. Yesterday Kalinic (and not only him) just bossed our defense.

Its bad when players like chiellini come out with this excuse. Of course its valid but you sense his not the only one who thinks this. I dont remember him coming out saying the same about other players weve missed.
Because Pogba was the last big dynamic piece left in our midfield, so its more worrying now lost him without replacing him anywhere close to what he offered. As a poster said above, Vidal was a huge loss in more ways, but when he lost him we still had Pogba to carry the torch, now the latter is gone, we have Sturaro starting games...

it wasn't an excuse, he replied to a question by a journalist. he'd probably say that we miss pirlo or tevez, too.

Benatia over Chiellini for sure in a 4-2-3-1.

Even though Chiellini managed to hoof two nice balls to Mandzukic, the rest of his ball playing is just comical.
