Inter could sell Fabio Cannavaro to a Spanish side in order to raise funds for £10m Christian Chivu.

The surprise reports emerged over the weekend in Italy, with rumours that Real Madrid and Barcelona had requested the defender.

Cannavaro only joined Inter last summer from Parma and is now captain of the Italian national squad.

However, newspapers claim that his agent Gaetano Fedele was spotted in Spain for talks with Barcelona directors.

A meeting with Real bosses is also planned within the next few days, as both clubs are in desperate need of experienced defenders.

The £10m price-tag would seemingly not be a problem, but his wage demands are a stumbling block for the Spaniards.

Nerazzurri technical director Marco Branca confirmed on Friday "no new buys will be made before June 30."

That date marks the end of the football financial year in Italy, so the club is trying to balance the books before splashing out.

Names lined up include Ajax defender Chivu, Chievo duo Luciano and Simone Perrotta, plus Arsenal winger Freddie Ljungberg.

Yesterday evening Inter confirmed they had swapped Domenico Morfeo with Parma's creative midfielder Sabri Lamouchi in a two-year loan deal.

There was more good news for the Nerazzurri, as despite ending the season empty-handed their season ticket sales have soared.

In the opening week of the renewal campaign 6,281 season tickets have been sold, almost three times the 2,110 sold at this stage last year

Canna played terrible against Barca at Nou Camp in CL
Saviola made fool out of him and i don't know why would Barca consider getting him
IMO Nesta is a much better defender than him
