ROME (AP)—Italian Football Federation officials are awaiting developments in a criminal court case in Naples as they consider opening a new investigation into the match-fixing scandal that rocked the national sport four years ago.

For several days, Italian media have printed alleged phone-tap conversations linking Inter Milan and other clubs to the scandal.

Inter was awarded the 2006 Serie A title after Juventus was stripped of the honor and relegated to Serie B due to its role in the scandal.

The Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Wednesday that Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete and federation prosecutor Stefano Palazzi met on Tuesday to discuss the matter.

It’s unclear, however, if the statute of limitations in the case has expired.

The new phone taps came to light as part of the defense of former Juventus executive Luciano Moggi in the Naples case, with Moggi arguing that all the teams were in contact with refereeing officials.

In the purported conversations—as printed in the Gazzetta—Inter president Massimo Moratti is heard talking with referee selector Paolo Bergamo about the match officials for an Italian Cup game that Inter went on to win 3-1 over Bologna in January 2005.

Moratti has rejected the new allegations as “ridiculous and shameful.”

Another former Juventus executive, Antonio Giraudo, already has received a three-year sentence from the Naples court on charges of criminal association aimed at committing sports fraud.

Moggi and Giraudo were banned from football for five years by a sports court for influencing the outcome of matches. They deny wrongdoing.

Juventus was stripped of its 2005 and ’06 Serie A titles and relegated to the second division with a nine-point penalty. It immediately won promotion back to Serie A.

The scandal was the biggest corruption case in the history of Italian football. Besides Juventus, three other big clubs—AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina—were penalized, as were Reggina and Arezzo.

Abete cares more about the national team than any club, wouldn't be expecting anything major from him unless he wants a repeat of 2006 with all the off field stuff so Italy can win another world cup :shifty:

can we expect a new scandal every 4 years now just before the World Cup

Good, your thoughts about this gsol?
Tough call. I have little faith I the FIGC. I have no idea what will happen but doubt we’ll be entirely satisfied by their decisions.

This isn’t a prediction but I do imagine something along these lines.
    - Reopen it to humor Juventini.
    - Hide behind some loophole to not convict anyone else.
    - Revoke the scudetto Inter got in court and not reassign it like the 2004-2005 title

In the meantime the truth will come out in Civil Court.

I am only now beginning to inform myself of the recent news regarding calciopoli...but my two questions remain as they were before the revelations, or stirring of the cauldron, namely:

1.Is there any chance that Inter or Milan will be demoted, as we were, and stripped of titles?
    2. is there any chance that Moggi and co. will be cleared of wrongdoing??? Which would also exonerate our club?? and get us our stolen titles back?????
milan were already punished in 2006 so they can not be punished again for the same crime or?

what about other scudetti they have ''won'' since 2006? these are results of unfair competition. every one of them should be revoked.

    FIGC will discuss Calciopoli claims

    Wednesday 7 April, 2010

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The President of the FIGC, Giancarlo Abete, will discuss the latest revelations from the Calciopoli trial in Naples.

Luciano Moggi's defence lawyer has uncovered new wiretaps that allegedly implicate Inter in the scandal that first emerged in 2006 and ultimately saw Juventus relegated to Serie B.

Abete met with the FIGC's chief magistrate Stefano Palazzi yesterday and he intends to discuss whether to re-open the investigation in a further meeting after the latest hearing of the trial next Tuesday.

Moggi's defence lawyer has promised to demonstrate that Calciopoli never even existed on that date.

The revelations could lead to sanctions against Inter from the FIGC, but not against Milan who were already punished for their alleged part in the 2006 scandal.

Did you just end your sentence in a conjunction?

Gotta agree with that. Nothing like completely destroying rival clubs to cruise to titles.

They were punished for Meani only. The rest of the club distanced from him and claimed they didn't know about it. But those new transcriptions also include Galliani talking, and they weren't punished for that, yet.
