The nominees for the Italian Association of Footballers’ Calcio Oscars 2006-07 have been announced.

The awards are voted for by the players of Serie A and will be presented at a ceremony in Milan on January 28, 2008.

World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro won Best Overall Player, Best Italian Footballer and Best Defender last year, but this time around no one player is set to dominate.

Milan’s Andrea Pirlo will battle Roma duo Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi for the Best Italian Player prize, while Ballon d’Or favourites Kaka and Zlatan Ibrahimovic compete for Best Foreign Player along with Fiorentina’s Adrian Mutu.

Gigi Buffon isn’t eligible for Best Goalkeeper as he was banished to Serie B with Juventus.

The Azzurri shot-stopper has won for five of the last six seasons and Fiorentina’s Sebastien Frey, Inter’s Julio Cesar and ex-Lazio veteran Angelo Peruzzi will look to take advantage.

Fiorentina’s Riccardo Montolivo and Giampaolo Pazzini are up for Best Young Player as is Villarreal hitman Giuseppe Rossi. Marco Materazzi, Philippe Mexes and Alessandro Nesta are the nominees for Best Defender.

The nominations in full:

Best Italian Player: Daniele De Rossi (Roma), Andrea Pirlo (Milan), Francesco Totti (Roma)

Best Foreign Player: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter), Kaka (Milan), Adrian Mutu (Fiorentina)

Best Goalkeeper: Sebastien Frey (Fiorentina), Julio Cesar (Inter), Angelo Peruzzi (Lazio)

Best Youngster: Riccardo Montolivo (Fiorentina), Giampaolo Pazzini (Fiorentina), Giuseppe Rossi (Villarreal)

mexes was great last season, it's only recently he's been doing shit. i hope my boy montolivo wins the young player award.
Yes,he was great last season but he`s also good now.If you say he`s doing sh*t recenetly that only means that you haven`t watched Roma games this season because he`s doing great along side with Juan.

Chivu was way better than him. I can name others whom were by miles better than him.
Maybe 2 years ago but last one?I doubt.Chivu was injured for a quiet long last season but Mexes was better from any point of view.

i believe some people are taking into account Kaka's CL performances...this is strictly about Serie A performances right?because if thats the case Zlatan is definetely better.

    All wrong.

i believe some people are taking into account Kaka's CL performances...this is strictly about Serie A performances right?because if thats the case Zlatan is definetely better.
Exactly. Pirlo better than Totti who won the Golden Foot award? :howler: Nesta was injured for half of the season for Milan and his performances were great only in Champions League.

Pazzini didn´t even play regularly for Fiorentina and when he played, he wasn´t that great. On the other hand Giuseppe Rossi saved Parma from relegation almost by himself. Cesar the best GK? :disagree:

Kaka is miles better than Zlatan.

Pirlo was the best Italian player, yes, better than Totti.

Cesar was one of the reasons Inter won Lo Scudetto.

Pazzini is better than Rossi and Montolivo.

    Nesta is Nesta.
