Martin Caceres has lifted the lid on last night’s goal celebration against Napoli.
After breaking the deadlock with a powerful header that flashed past De Sanctis, the Uruguayan defender sprinted purposefully towards the dugout and pointed to someone on the bench.
But who was his celebration directed at?
“I ran to hug Isla,” admitted Caceres the day after the 2-0 win over the Partenopei. “I spoke to him for a long time during the game and my first thought was for him. I’m happy about the goal, but above all for the victory achieved by the team.”
Martin’s priceless opener, coupled with Pogba’s first strike in the black and white stripes, means that a total of 13 different players have found the target for Juventus in all competitions this season.
And the 25-year-old believes the statistic sums up the Bianconeri’s team ethos to perfection.
“We’re all first-team players here. All of us can play and provide our own contribution. Yesterday myself, Pogba and Matri came on and we all did well. We help each other out a great deal, the strikers defend and the defenders attack. We work as a team and it doesn’t matter who scores.”
Caceres concluded by detailing the reasons behind the club’s continued success in Serie A, before reiterating his desire to demonstrate these characteristics on the European stage.
“We possess even more conviction and motivation with respect to last season, we’re even stronger on a psychological level. We always want to win, we know we’re wearing a shirt that brings pressure and we always play to get the three points.
“Now we want to go on and do well in the Champions League. We’ve drawn our first two games and it’s time for our first win. We understand the importance of Wednesday’s game in Denmark.”
