Up to a couple of months ago, people in Ecuador fiercely defended their fellow countrymnan Byron Moreno, the man who 'helped' Italy bow out of the 2002 WC with a one sided direction in the match against South Korea. But now most of them have changed their minds.

Last Sunday, Moreno made an impressive number of "mistakes" during the Ecuadorian League's big match between Deportivo Liga and Barcelona Guayaquil, and now risks a heavy suspension, possibly a career ending one.

Moreno whistled two inexistent penalties (one per side) in the first half, and allowed a goal in spite of the linesman's offisde signal only to change his mind in front of the remonstrations by his colleague. Furthermore, he didn't eject an already booked Deportivo player who made a terrible foul on Barcelona's Tenorio. But the Italian public enemy's masterpiece was yet to come...

In the 90th minute, with Barcelona leading 3-2, Moreno indicated 6 minutes of added time. But the chubby referee decided to add 6 more minutes without any reason, and this was the outcome: Deportivo Liga scored twice in the 98th and in the 101th, and won the match 4-3!

To make matters worse, in his official report Moreno indicated the scoring minutes of Deportivo's two goals as "89th and 90th". According to Barcelona's chairman Leonardo Bohrer, "this is the evidence of the corruption of that miserable man. He robbed us and now he must pay".

A couple of years ago, Moreno was suspended for 6 rounds following another impressive series of "mistakes" during the match between Portovidejo and Deportivo Cuenca.

How the hell was a ref like him taken 2 the WC??? and 2 top it all, he was given a big match between the HOSTS and italy??? no no this is 2 much, i am convinced now that blatter had something 2 do with this, i think it was revenge cos the spainish FA and the italian FA were against blatter in the fifa presidential elections so he decide 2 get even. its so disgusting 2 see how football is these days. teams like real go behind the backs of clubs and talk 2 the player first without consulting the club, which is illegal!!

QUITO, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Ecuador's controversial World Cup referee Byron Moreno, who caused another storm by adding on 12 minutes injury time during a league match on Sunday, has been criticised for mixing football and politics by the team which lost the game.
Barcelona president Leonardo Bohrer claimed that it was unethical for Moreno, a candidate in October elections for places on the Quito city council, to continue refereeing in the run-up to the poll.

Moreno refereed the controversial World Cup match in which co-hosts South Korea beat Italy 2-1 with a golden goal and the latest storm to engulf him continued to dominate the Ecuadorean media on Tuesday.

Moreno awarded two hotly-disputed penalties, sent off two players and caused confusion by first awarding a goal and then disallowing it during the Liga de Quito-Barcelona match.

But the biggest controversy came after he signalled six minutes of injury time but played 12, during which Liga de Quito scored twice -- in the 99th and 101st minutes -- to secure a 4-3 win.

'It's not ethical for him to continue being a referee, especially in a province in which he is a candidate,' said Bohrer.

'The supporters of Liga de Quito are voters in his province,' the official added.

Bohrer said Barcelona had asked the Ecuadorean Football Federation (FEF) to suspend Moreno indefinitely for his performances in the match against Liga de Quito.

FEF vice-president Carlos Villis said the refereeing commission would hold a 'wide-ranging and in-depth' meeting on the issue.

The FEF's website, which said it had received 'endless' e-mails from fans on the matter, said that Moreno had admitted an error and had added that 'it's human to make mistakes'.

Ecuadorean media, who backed Moreno during the World Cup when he was viciously criticised by Italy after their defeat, this time added to the flak.

'He's gone from hero to villain in three months,' said El Comercio, which demanded foreign referees for major matches. 'To avoid more problems, we recommend him to move away from football during his political campaign.'

An Italian fan has threatened to sue Moreno after he controversially sent off Francesco Totti and disallowed a Damiano Tomassi goal before South Korea beat Italy 2-1 with a golden goal in June's World Cup second round.

The funny thing is that everybody things is just
cynism

when Italians were screaming for his head. The journalists in my country ofcourse jumped to his defense and referred to the Perugia Ahn affair to give indication of how poor losers Italians really are.

Blatter who recived the biggest part of his support from Africa and Asian FA. In his first elections against Swede Johansson. And in his second election aginst the African candidate. The African states switched Side will the Asian, half the European and half the S American headed with Blatter.

Blatteer again found a perfect way to clear the mess. He lay the blame on former national and friend Michelle Zen Ruffien and
said that it was his crazy shceme to choose Refrees from all types of different leagues

which was the reason for the scandall.

So He managed to ridd himself of any blame
