Gianluigi Buffon is adamant that Italy can make their way out of Group C and progress through to the Euro 2012 knockout stages.
The goalkeeper, speaking via his official Facebook page the day after the Azzurri were held to a draw by Croatia, believes the team has what it takes to beat the Republic of Ireland in their final group game.
He said: “There’s an element of bitterness that will remain, at least until the next game... the decisive game! I’m convinced our destiny is exclusively in our own hands, if we win we go through, so we won’t start to worry unnecessarily about possible outcomes elsewhere.”
The other Group C encounter sees reigning champions Spain take on Croatia.
Vincent Del Bosque’s men are in good form following last night’s drubbing of Ireland and Buffon expects them to stick to their task on Monday night.
“As I’ve said before, Spain will be Spain, I’m fully convinced about that. When you have the awareness of being stronger, you’re not scared of anything. You play to enjoy yourselves and to win, while looking to express your superiority.”
