Juventus currently sit at the top of Serie A and boast an unbeaten record that stretches back 18 games. Part of this can be attributed to Gigi Buffon’s consistency between the posts, with the 33-year-old continuing to play a vital role in Antonio Conte’s new-look Bianconeri side.
The Bianconeri number one commented: “Now it’s something new, but up until a few years ago we were used to a situation like this, and it’s nice to find ourselves here again. We’re managing to do it thanks to the desire to surprise, to sweat and to exact revenge. It’s true that the defence is doing well, but that’s thanks to the work of the whole team who press the opposition.”
Buffon enjoyed a particularly good end to 2011, putting in a string of consistent performances which saw him voted as the club’s player of the month for December. But which save did Gigi regard as being his finest of the year? “I’d say the one from Boateng against Milan. Perhaps it wasn’t spectacular and not everyone could take account of how difficult it was, but whoever plays in goal knows that it was a good stop.”
Saturday will see the Bianconeri travel to Bergamo where they take on Atalanta. The Nerazzurri have a solid record at home and Gigi is fully aware of the potential dangers that could lie ahead. “It will be a tricky game. It always is against Atalanta and even more so at this current moment, with them enjoying a particular spell, while we’re trying to maintain our current league position.”
