Gigi Buffon is confident the Bianconeri will continue to improve as they seek to reclaim last season’s Scudetto crown.
With six wins out of seven and an unbeaten run stretching back 46 games, Juventus have launched their title defence in blistering fashion.
And the 34-year old believes this season’s crop has all the credentials to last the distance.
Speaking from Italy’s training base in Coverciano, Buffon began: “Our process of growth, which began a year and a half ago, is still continuing. By following a prudent strategy, the directors have strengthened the team during the summer transfer market, so there’s no doubt we’ll be able to fight for the title right until the end of the season.”
The goalkeeper - who recently celebrated his 400[SUP]th[/SUP] club appearance in the Champions League encounter with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge - then cast his eye over this season’s potential Scudetto challengers.
“Napoli have a settled system and style of play, along with a first-rate squad. Lazio are also having an exceptional season so far. I don’t know their manager, but he’s showing himself to be intelligent and capable of moving with the times, as well as speaking our language better than many Italians do. Inter have opted for a younger approach and I believe that’s the right way of going about things. If they manage to gain consistency they could be a threat all the way.”
Juventus return to action with an enticing top of the table clash against Napoli on Saturday 20 October, followed by a Champions League meeting with Danish outfit Nordsjaelland three days later.
And Buffon has called on his team-mates to put the disappointment of Shakhtar behind them by taking all three points at Farum Park.
“We played a brilliant game against Chelsea, showing that we’re an important side. We were below par against Shakhtar, which was also down to their strong performance. Sometimes, when you don’t play as well as you’d like, it’s because the others are better organised. The fact that we didn’t lose that game was a very strong sign. Now we must look to turn that draw in our favour over the course of the next four group games.”
