Celtic captain Scott Brown has called on his team to draw inspiration from their passionate support as they go in search of a positive result against Juventus on Tuesday night.
The 27-year-old has been a key component of a side that progressed from a challenging group featuring Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow to set up an appetising last 16 showdown with the Bianconeri.
Speaking at Celtic Park earlier this afternoon, Brown said: “The players are ready and can’t wait to take to the field. The fans will be up for it. They’re our twelfth man and have helped us in every game so far. We need to make our stadium a fortress.”
Having used the electric atmosphere at Parkhead to propel them into the Champions League knockout stages, Brown believes the time has arrived for Celtic to repay their supporters with a convincing performance against the reigning Italian champions.
“We need to defend well, break effectively on the counter attack and show plenty of courage. It’s the biggest game many of our lads have ever faced. Everything’s been so high and intense in training.”
But the midfielder, who has already lined up against Juventus playmaker Andrea Pirlo at international level, is aware that Antonio Conte’s men have the ability to threaten Celtic’s impressive home record.
“Juventus have great players who are magic on the ball and capable of creating something from nothing. Andrea Pirlo is undoubtedly one of those, his ability is second to none. We have to try and stop him from playing.”
