Leonardo Bonucci has revealed one of the main ingredients behind Juve’s strong championship run this season. The 24-year-old, who alongside Barzagli and Chiellini forms part of the strongest defence in Europe, believes the Bianconeri rearguard has played a significant role in lifting the team to the top of Serie A.
Speaking after the win over Novara, Bonucci said: “It’s an added value. We’ve conceded one goal in eight games and I think our unbreachable defence is one of the secrets of this Juve side.”
The Viterbo-born centre-back took a blow to the nose when contesting a challenge at the Silvio Piola, causing him to briefly leave the field of play for treatment.
“I’m fine, I was a little unlucky to take a knock when my mask slipped down as I went up for a header. It drew a bit of blood, but it wasn’t a problem.”
Juventus burst out the traps at a blistering pace, with Bonucci confirming that the team had previously discussed the potential dangers of facing a spirited side battling to avoid the drop.
“We spoke in the dressing room and knew it would be another tough game like we faced in Cesena. We took to the field with the right focus, possessing the hunger of those who want to win.
“We instantly managed to get things going in our favour, and did well to immediately put the game to bed.
“It was a good victory that’s come from a great team, a great manager and a great project. We’ll now think ahead to Wednesday, because we still haven’t achieved anything.”
