Fiorentina eye Bianchi Thursday 8 March, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fiorentina are reportedly targeting Reggina’s Rolando Bianchi as a possible replacement for Luca Toni.

The world champion was paired with a move to Inter last summer, as the hitman was keen to play in the Champions League and compete for the Scudetto, but he eventually decided to stay in Tuscany.

The Viola are currently seventh in the table with 35 points, eight points shy of a Champions League spot, and Toni might consider a summer move if the Gigliati were not to qualify for next season’s tournament.

Reports have even suggested that Toni only agreed to stay last summer after he was guaranteed that he would be allowed to leave in 2007.

Last year’s Capocannoniere has recently been linked with Juventus, where he might replace David Trezeguet, but Inter could also renew their interest, as Hernan Crespo could return to Chelsea.

The striker is valued at £14m and part of the money earned by Toni’s sale could be used to sign his successor, thought to be the in-form Bianchi.

The player joined Reggina from Atalanta last summer for £2m and is also a reported target for Milan, Juventus, Roma and Palermo, who have all been impressed by his outstanding performances with the Amaranto.

According to the Italian Press, Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino met with Reggina President Lillo Foti last week, reaching a verbal agreement that would take Bianchi to the Stadio Artemio Franchi in June.

14 million for an average player is too much.

He's not average. Though I that the price is high, but thats just the hype because he's been scoring goals. Imo, he's worth 7-10m. He's a definite Azzurri star once the oldies reitre soon.

If Trezeguet stays with us, Zalayeta is no longer an effective element in our future plan and Bojinov will return to Fiorentina by the end of the current season, I think that landing Bianchi would be more than great.

Zalayeta is going nowwhere and we don't need another forward.
How could you know?

In the previous season, we had Del Piero, Trezeguet, Zlatan, Zalayeta and Mutu. By the way, with the previous front line, due to lots of reasons, we were still lacking consistency and positivity.

Now we have Del Piero, Trezeguet (Depending on the daily news, he hasn't deceided yet whether to stay or to leave), Bojinov (On his way out as I can see), Zalayeta (What was his last match with team?) and Palladino. Therefore, the only forwards available will be Del Piero and Palladino. Hence, I do believe that we need two forwards (In case that Trezeguet stays with us): actually I go for Pizzaro and Bianchi.

I think we should really try to buy the kid and let him mature a year and learn from Trezeguet(or any other player that will replace him if he leaves).
