Please, don't talk about it if you don't know. Led Zeppelin are by some regarded as the creators of heavy metal (not me though, but that's another story). They most certainly play rock, if you think that Zeppelin's too soft to be rock then you don't know what rock is. Sorry, but that's a fact.

Also, Metallica's not a rock band, even though the Load stuff could be considered as rock. Their other albums are metal though, and they are widely considered to be a metal band.

James Hetfield is one of the best rythm guitarists on this planet. He has everything if you ask me, but that's another issue.

Kirk Hammet is the one who is most like Slash and buckethead. Hammet is one of the most talented guitarists in this world. It is not for nothing that he has been awarded the prize for California's best guitarist. Kirk Hammets solos are not as advanced as Mark Knopfler's but they are extremely well-written and absolutely ****ing great. Hammet can master all types of styles, both metal and blues solos. Listen to the solos in Fade to black and Master of puppets and you will see what I mean.
In my opinion he is much better than Buckethead, Slash is very talented and I'd say he is equal to Hammet.

I dont like Led Zep. I recognize them as one of the founding rock bands, and appreciate a few of their songs. But apart from that they just arent that good IMO.
Stairway to Heaven is the most overplayed song ever and much overrated. And its one of there few 'good' songs. And its like courtney love puts it 'why does the song remain the same'

btw: I read article about different votings etc for the best rock bands.
And we have new generation of voters: some time ago it was impossible to miss such bands like: Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, The Beatles and now they are gone from such lists, and new bands taken their places.

I almost died, when I've been watching one of voting, and there was no The Doors, and (Torkel dont get a heartattack ) no Led Zepellin.

exactly. I dont see the hype around Kirk Hammett. He's kinda like Kurt Cobain, creative but not very fantastical on the guitar IMO. Please don't compare him to the likes of Knopfler and Slash. It's very insulting to the latter two.


My choice for best rock band?

Gun N Roses, Dire Straits , Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd(altho they're a bit different from normal rock bands, i still call them a rock band), and Incubus

I think we should have separate nomination for classic rock, alternative, heavy metal, punk, non-commercial music, etc.
