Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has resigned as President of Serie A champions Milan.

The Rossoneri confirmed the news this evening, bringing an end to Berlusconi’s long relationship with the outfit.

Berlusconi has been the Milan chief since March 1986, turning the then struggling outfit into the best team on the planet.

The politician has been forced to resign after 18 years due to the introduction of a new law concerning conflicts of interest.

Milan have stated that the role will remain vacant for now, even if Berlusconi’s son Piersilvio is being tipped to replace his father.

"The Rossoneri confirmed the news this evening, bringing an end to Berlusconi’s long relationship with the outfit."

Far from it...Galliani was acting President since Berlusconi was PM and he remains OWNER i.e. financial BACKER. Odd to use the word END to Berlusconi's long relationship since in essence he still has the final say AND has not been acting President for many years now.

Milan exit saddens Berlusconi
Wednesday 29 December, 2004

Silvio Berlusconi has spoken for the first time after he resigned as President of Italian champions Milan.

"I’m obviously disappointed, very disappointed," he stated after news of his departure was confirmed last night.

"But let us not forget that we’ve won more than anybody else during my years as President here."

Berlusconi took control of Milan on 24 March 1986, helping them basically win every domestic and international club trophy available.

Berlusconi, the Italian Prime Minister, has been forced to quit to comply with a new law on conflicts of interest.

It was passed to help resolve the clash between his political power and his massive business empire.

However, Milan captain Paolo Maldini insists that Berlusconi will remain an important figure for the Rossoneri.

"We all know that he’s basically been forced to take this step," said the Italian legend. "But he will never abandon us. Milan are a part of his heart."

That is highly insulting to Italians...every Italian business man who is a self made billionaire is invovled in the Mafia??
Please explain to me how someone who went to law school, began in the construction industry and then owned major publishing companies in Italy and television stations while building a soccer team through business principles is labelled a mobster?

Your statement is ignorant, uncreative, typical and low ..nevermind to Berlusconi but to all Italians.

LOWLIFE SCUMBAG...GO SPREAD YOUR STEREOTYPYING AND RACIAL GARBAGE SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Incubo, I really inspire your energy and determination in replying to all the attacks on Milan and Silvio B. Really! :)
That was not an attack on Milan .. nor on Silvio berlusconi...it was an implied insult to Italians in general. It is simply low class uneducated thinking .. sad really that it still exists on this level.

That was quite insulting. Blame the media!

What is the law of Conflict of Interest? Isn't this the reason for his actions?
