Vanilla Ice was the Eminem of his day. At the time was Vanilla was as cool as it get's. Not fair to slam him because he dosen't fit now :D
I saw Chuck D from Public Enemy speak at the Commonwealth Club of CA not long ago, and he was saying how he considered Vanilla Ice (yes, Vanilla) something of a white rap pioneer he was fond of at the time.

How is it funny? I mean sure the sure the first track he realised was kinda funny but everything since has just been the same old crap. Does this guy just watch TV all day looking for people to flip off? Or maybe he can sing about 8mile some more?

It's childish and he's an middle aged man. Needs a change in direction for sure.

Must really suck to be in a music industry that limits what you can do musically and lyrically.
Jaecole, you are only talking about the stuff that gets played on the radio. The tracks that do not get played on the radio, such as "Rain Man," "Yellow Brick Road," and "Evil Deeds" off his most recent album, are some of the best songs I have ever heard. He doesn't really insult anybody in those, and for some reason Em's best tracks never get played on the radio or what not. These tracks are a million times better than such crap "Ass Like That." This is the same story for every album he has made.

3rd Bass (who were phoenomenal back in the early 90's. MC Serch, by the way, is the one who discovered Nas.)

Everlast, before he became an idiot

    Kid Rock- See Everlast

    Bubba Sparxx
    Everlast was always an idiot.

Kid Rock is not a rap artist per se, and some of his first stuff isn't that bad. Looking forward to seeing that guy a couple boxes down at the Wings games this December. :thumb:

Quality white rappers are overexposed in the united states. There are quite a few underground rappers who are quality too. Quality, obviously means different things to different people.

Look up Gold Chains. He's been touring with Sue Cie lately, and his tracks are perfect.

    Remember the lyrics? :D

Informer you no say daddy me Snow me I'll go blame
    A licky boom boom down
Detective mon said daddy me Snow me stab someone down the lane
    A licky Boom Boom Down

Me sittin' 'round cool with my dibbie dibbie girl
Police knock my door lick up my pal
Rough me up an' I can't do a thing
Pick up my line when my telephone ring
Take me to the station black up my hands
Trail me down 'cuz I'm hangin' with the Snowman
What I'm gonna do I'm backed an' I'm trapped
Slap me in the face an' took all o' my gap
They have no clues an' they wanna get warmer
    But Shan won't turn informer

You know who else is considered a pioneer in rap?

    Don't Laugh.

    MC Hammer.

Think about it for a second.

He was the first true crossover superstar in rap. He was the first to have all the fancy cars and houses, he was the first to have a major headlining tour to sell out all over the world, he had his own TV show, all his commercial endorsements, extravagant videos, the whole nine.

He was the first to do it.

edit- as far as the Beastie Boys are concerned, they have transcended rap into a genre all their own. They are musical pioneers, not only rap pioneers.

I'll give the nod to what Sergio said here about the Beasties... they've transformed into something beyond merely rap.

As for MC Hammer, living in the Bay Area many always joked about going down to the suburb of Fremont (near San Jose & Oakland) where he had a mansion high on the hills among Bay Area football players, etc. There was sort of a "death watch" fascination then, with some folks wanting to drive by to see what the foreclosers at the bank would start hauling down the hill from his place as collateral.

He's from Toronto, and he is still in the music business

now though, he has softened up, making adult contemporary music

LL Cool J would be more of a pioneer of rap, IMO....

Painfully so! I still cannot watch a Jean Claude Van Damme movie with a straight face after a friend first showed me his uncredited performance in the movie Breakin' II: Electric Boogaloo.

Of course, that friend showed it to me on a laser disk. Anybody you knew a dozen years ago with Breakin' II on laser disk was worth raising some eyebrows over.
