That barnstorming charge up the pitch and assist for Giovinco was worth a 8/10 in the ratings by itself. But Andrea Barzagli's match against Roma was so much more than that. His usual impeccable timing in the tackle, his ruthless marking, his build-up play... even a raking pass for Marchisio that led to that free kick which enabled Pirlo to open the floodgates.
Andrea certainly wasn't alone though: the whole team was immense tonight. "We played brilliantly," the defender smiled. "We were quite worried because Roma are a dangerous side, but we went and killed the game off immediately. Perhaps we should have controlled things better in the second period. They started playing differently when Destro came on – he's a player who likes to get in behind the defence. Lamela and Totti are more inclined to use their skill with their back to goal, so we had to get in and beat them to it."
The game plan worked to a tee, providing the perfect response to those who thought Juve had gone off the boil after the Fiorentina match. When the Bianconeri play at this tempo, they really do seem to be unstoppable. Barzagli was keen to keep enthusiasm in check, however: "We're not getting carried away because it's a long season. We've got the Champions League to factor in too. Let's just stick to this path."
