Wait ... wait .... don't tell me the score!

:p

It's bad enough when I have to avoid going here on game days when I record Sunday matches with La Grande Giostra dei Gol starting at 6am. I may not watch them until noon or even later, which is when most people here are already asleep...

Abbiati To Make Juve Debut Against Barca
8/23/2005 6:19:00 PM
Juventus boss Fabio Capello announced Gigi Buffon’s replacement Cristian Abbiati will play against Liga giants Barcelona, when the two European powerhouses face-off in the Camp Nou on Wednesday.
"Abbiati will surely start tomorrow night, and in the future as well. He’s a great player, and this shouldn’t come as a surprise as he has played both with Milan and La Nazionale," said the Juventus boss before looking ahead to the Nou Camp clash.

"It won’t be easy, many of our players are injured. But I am happy with how we have been playing lately. We are in a good condition. However the most important thing is to bag results, something we’ve had problems achieving of late," he observed.

Last Saturday, Juventus lost the Italian Super Cup to Inter; just a few days before they were defeated by AC Milan.

1- i guess we are ganna see a fantastic game.

2- both teams will play carefully as long as the season will start shortly.

3- we are ganna see some good skills from zlatan & ronaldinho definitely on this match.

4-its a friendly match so both teams did not care about the result.

I feel like a kid in a candy store. A bit excited to see this match, even if, as you say correctly, it means nothing.

So this means that Chiellini + Mutu will be in there. And let's put Balzeretti at RB, I wanna see how it turns out.

"Barcelona vs. Juventus"
[no description available]

Original Airdate: August 27, 2005.
Telemundo tends to run a short handful of La Liga and even an occasional Serie A games when the weekend is light on Mexican League coverage. For example, last year I saw them air a tape-delayed broadcast (in Spanish, of course) of that freakish Reggina-Juve game that we lost 2-1. Same day in that case.

So I have every expectation it's legit. They showed the Barca-Betis Supercopa over the past couple of weekends.

Frank Rijkaard has decided to call up the entire squad for the Juventus match, a decision that will no doubt contribute to strengthening the team spirit for the start of the season.

Every single senior squad player, including those on the injury list, has been called up for Wednesdays match against Juventus in the 40th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy, which every year serves as a curtain raiser to the new season and a chance for the fans to see the new squad in action. Earlier this week, the squad and the Board of Directors had dinner together, and Rijkaards decision is yet a further gesture towards unity in the Club.

    The complete list

The squad list is made of the players selected for last weekend's game against Betis (Valdés, Márquez, Ronaldinho, Belletti, Xavi, Larsson, Giuly, Puyol, Iniesta, Edmilson, Gabri, Deco, Sylvinho, Oleguer, Jorquera, Van Bommel, Gio and Eto'o) plus those players still sidelined by injury (Motta, Ezquerro, Damià) together with the two players left out by Rijkaard (Leo Messi and Maxi López).

    Ronaldinho fitness worries

The Brazilian star was unable to train on Monday and pulled out before the end of Tuesdays session with a pulled back muscle. Along with the rest of his team-mates he is included in the squad but a big question mark hangs over his availability for the game.

The Italian coach has praised the current Barca side, with special mention for Ronaldinho, Eto'o and Frank Rijkaard. Juventus have arrived in Barcelona without Nedved, Emerson, Thuram and Zambrotta.

Speaking at a press conference immediately after his squad's final training session in Turin on Tuesday morning, Capello told reporters. "Playing in Barcelona is always difficult though I'm convinced we'll have a good game. I saw the last match they played against Betis and the truth is I saw a Barca side in very good form. Without a doubt it'll be a difficult match, a really tough test ahead of the Champions League".

    Ronaldinho and Eto'o

After analysing the squad as a whole, Capello moved on to comment on a number of individual Barca players: "Ronaldinho is a forward who combines imagination and speed. It's not easy for a player to have both these gifts at the same time. But the real danger man in Barca is Eto'o, a player I had when I coached Real Madrid".

Capello was also full of praise for Barca manager Frank Rijkaard: "He's demonstrating that he's on the right path to becoming a great coach. He was always great as a player. In fact, I believe that ex midfielders have something special that makes them good coaches".

    The Juventus squad list

At the last moment, Nedved, Zambrotta, Emerson and Thuram joined goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon on the unavailable list. The final squad is as follows:

    Goalkeepers: Abbiati and Chimenti
Defenders: Chiellini, Kovac, Pessotto, Balzaretti, Zebina and Cannavaro
Midfielders: Vieira, Camoranesi, Giannichedda, Olivera and Blasi
Forwards: Ibrahimovic, Del Piero, Trezeguet, Zalayeta and Mutu
