Federico Balzaretti says he’s happy to stay at Juventus, but understands some of his teammates’ decision to leave the Bianconeri.
“We are very sad about what has happened,” said the 24-year-old following the club’s sensational demotion.
“We didn’t go looking for it and we didn’t deserve it, but will roll up our sleeves and try to do our best.
“I am happy I stayed here, the club decided to bet on some of its players and that makes us feel more motivated,” added the Turin-born player.
Balzaretti believes that motivation is going to be a key factor this term if the club are going to achieve their objective of immediate promotion.
“Who stays must be certain of the choice, those who didn’t feel that way did the right thing when they left, Serie B must be faced with the right mentality and attitude,” he argued.
“I don’t want to be a hypocrite and I confess I initially considered the option of leaving, but am now glad I didn’t do so. The group is our strength and we will reach great results.”
Balza has played four seasons in Serie B and knows the difficulties Juventus will have to face if the appeal verdict is confirmed.
“The final point deduction [which currently stands at 17] will make the difference,” said the defender.
“In August everything seems easy, but Serie B is a difficult championship, totally different from the major League.
“You seldom see more than three or four passes in a row and action is often interrupted, it won’t be an easy season, but we will do our best.”
Balzaretti is proud to have won successive Serie A and Serie B championships although Torino and Juventus were, for different reasons, ‘stripped’ of their titles.
“My teams won on the pitch, what happens outside the field of play does not depend on me,” concluded the Juventino.
Torino were unable to take their place in the top-flight last term following their financial collapse, but have now won promotion again under new owner Urbano Cairo.

Source: Football Italia
