The biggest challenge for them will be playing pro-active dominant football and not losing the squads balance. DD needed to play Matuidi as a LW during the last WC and Giroud's biggest contribution was defending set pieces. Even though they are stacked in talent they usually play counter attacking defensive football under DD and never really took the step to more dominant football.

Teams like Portugal and to a lesser extent Germany are masters of the same art. They'll give the French a big challenge imo.

I'm really looking forward to the EURO's. It'll probably the best edition since years. I just need to buy a better TV, master the grill and stack my beer collection further

Deschamps was never interested in playing anything but counter attacking football with France. Makes sense too since they had the players for it and it brings the best out of Mbappe.

This kind of match I think is fine for Italy. Each team plays their game and may the best one win.

The bigger problem imo is to play Mancini's dominant possession football against other teams that play similarly since you can be choked out of your gameplan. Like Spain, Portugal, and Belgium.

Tbh I don't expect much from us. We are all over the place. Pretty much a mess. Löw tried to set us up as more "soak up pressure and counter" team but that didn't really work out at all. I don't see us doing much - unless of course we show up simply because it's the Euros and we usually show up on the big stage.

Will Gosens be a starter?

Marco Verratti hasn't played in either warm-up game for Italy and is still recovering from a knee injury sustained over a month ago. It seems unlikely he will be ready to start Italy's opener against Turkey on Friday.

Verratti's expected absence should open up the door for Nicolo Barella and Manuel Locatelli to hold down starting berths either side of Chelsea's Jorginho in central midfield.

Lorenzo Pellegrini tweaked a muscle in training on Wednesday and may now withdraw from the squad, with Fiorentina's Gaetano Castrovilli on standby to replace him.

Ciro Immobile looks set to get the nod over Andrea Belotti up front for Italy's opening game, while Federico Chiesa and Domenico Berrardi are in competition to complete Italy's front three with Lorenzo Insigne.

Let's see how Demiral performs Friday? Need an Italy win but hopefully he plays well in upping value. More sites have Bernardi starting over Chiesa. Is this Bernardi really that good?

Berardi and Chiesa are two very different players. Berardi is more of a playmaker that can play in tight spaces. So I can see why Mancini would prefer to use Chiesa off the bench against a tiring opponent with possibly more space to run into.

Yeah I think Pellegrini is a good player, and likely would have been the first MF off the bench/starting depending on injuries. Castrovilli is very talented, but had a pretty poor season, hopefully he steps up if called upon.
