9 times out of 10 defenitely Verratti.

The one time anomaly is when you need a set piece specialist badly.

it is really astounding that for all the pride italians have for their national teams they can not get a proper head coach for the squadra azzurra. they always take peasant managers and allow them to make their first experiences in professional or international football with established stars. in recent memory conte was the best of the scrub coaches and even he was very inexperienced if you consider playing international tournaments. putting ventura on that position is even more incomprehensible. that guy would not even get a coaching gig at the big 4 or 5 clubs in italy. he could not even coach napoli for more than half a year.
Exactly and it's a shame, too. There's a World Cup only once every 4 years and this will be the last one for many players.

There was a time Italy has a surplus of talents, esp in midfield and defense and they could choose the most in form players from the best Italian teams and could only come to field a strong first eleven to cope with the NT standards.
Now the NT is forced to make so many compromises and in some places the subs are serie B material...
If this NT would compete in today's serie A, it would have ranked 5th or smth...
Although i still support them and still want them to go through, as far as our Juventus is concerned, i don't want to see us suffer the same fate. That's why i insist that this timeframe is not appropriate for an ItalJuve project and such obsessions will only hurt us. Spain easily has Barca or RM level and what do we have to field against them? Immobile and Candreva? And if this goes sideways, who we gonna call? Bernardeschi? Really?
The wings and forward line are particularly bad.
Veratti and De Rossi are the prized talents we ought to hunt, but we failed to get, the rest is just meh. We should not be so desperate to sign the next Spinazzola and Bernardeschi, as they obviously hold no water against serious CL competition...

4-2-4 against a possession playing nation, especially with a false #9 still gets me. What an inept piece of management. And to stick with it the whole game knowing Spain were more than happy with our windscreen wiper style of play gets me pissed. I don't blame the players. Ventura hung them out to dry.
