Italy right now is mediocre. Their only hope is the young guys. Hopefully Destro, El Shaarawy, Berardi, Sturaro, Darmian, Verratti, etc. become top players.

The transitional generation has been uninspiring and simply just not good enough. Osvaldo, Giaccherini, Giovinco, etc. Hopefully soon they'll be back to being at least competitive.

Funny to see the likes of Osvaldo, Giovinco and Giaccherini there, they have done nothing to deserve it, which contrasts his words that he was going to pick players on merit...Parolo deserves his call up, even if he is never going to be top class. And at least Zaza has shown a steady increase in potential, and I'm interested to see how he does.

It has to be noted that the likes of Barzagli, Pirlo, Balotelli, Cerci, Rossi and others like Thiago Motta, Romulo, Montolivo etc are not there for one reason or another, so it's not a valid benchmark for talent levels.
