I think almost everyone here will curse you for not thinking he's top 5. I also think most of his harshest critics still consider him top 10; they are just used to him being number 1. :)
He probably hasn't been number 1 for the last few seasons. But he's still good. He'd be better and have more longevity if his positioning were better.

I'm not disagreeing. I'm just saying that your might not disagree that much with his harshest critics as you think. They are just overreacting now because they used to think Buffon was flawless.

Oh I know this. I just don't have the same emotional attachment. So I have no qualms with making fun of knee-jerk superstars.

His positioning is what made him stand out compared to the rest. Thats why I find his sudden drop in quality surprising.
Funny, I've always thought the opposite. His ability to recover from bad positioning and react speedily is what has made him so successful.

As for the sudden drop in quality, he needs a rest.
