Italy looked so much better playing with the back 3. This has to be the way forward - find another good SS to play alongside Balotelli, preferably and hopefully Insigne.

Giacch Italian player of the tournament. So unlucky to hit the post again.

Prandelli persists to use trequartisti so if it must be this is our strongest line up IMO and what we should use for the WC

Buffon
Barzagli Bonucci Chiellini
Maggio De Rossi Pirlo Giaccherini
Marchisio Insigne/SES
Balotelli

Please do not field Montolivo or Aquilani ever again Prandelli. Awful national performances.

Possession 53% Spain - 47% Italy. Can't remember last time when was someone holding that much possession against Spaniards.
21(6)-15(3) shots

Verratti, Insigne, De Sciglio with an extra year of experience, and then maybe Totti as leader in the attack with Balo, SES in form. But the heart of the team must remain Buffon, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, De Rossi, Pirlo and Balo. And around them who is in form.

De Sciglio can move aside. He has no place in the squad if we can't play as a LM/LWB.

I hope Totti never returns to the NT as well.

Gotta do what's best for the team.

Italy played excellent using the 3-5-2/3-4-2-1 and they should continue to use it, even in the WC next summer.
:agree:

When Italy has three excellent centre-backs playing as a back three every week, a lack of good full-backs and a lack of good wingers, it seems clear that something along the lines of 3-5-2 is their best option.

De Sciglio's going to be a good player.

I wouldn't bet against him having a strong enough season to take Maggio's spot at the World Cup.

its frightening how montolivo can fuck up so much, and the number of times he failed to track his player... then there is that 'pass' without any pressure to one of our own defenders was fucking awful for one who claims his best role is the Pirlo role.

I don't even know why fiorentina fans are pissed he left for free. If he were at Juve i'd pay other clubs to take him from us

You mean the one to Chiellini? Ridiculous decision to lift the ball indeed.
He was good last year at Euro's. What happened to him since? Bunga, Bunga?
