Nothing surprising about Chiellini's performance. He's really tough and he gives silly fouls quite a lot. Low intelligence football wise.
That's nothing new.

But he's a real beast more often than not and despite his occasional brainfarts, he's of great use. The problem is that there isn't a calm head next to him in defense, a more experienced player. As much as we love him, we can not allow Chiellini to lead the defense. He's a guy who needs to do the dirty job.

I wouldn't say he has low football IQ, I'd say he's clumsy at times but it's not a regular thing. He doesn't give away a lot of penalties or get red cards and fouls less than he used to. As I said, I believe he'd be one of the best playing in a better team. When it comes to actually neutralising individual attackers, he's the best.

Well he doesn't have to. He will just stay great and not WC. :D
Your use of the word "will" makes your statements look weird a lot of times.

That's the thing though. People expect him to be a one man defense in all the matches. There were certain matches where he was like that, but if you notice him closely, as you said, he isn't that sort of player who leads the defense line by his own. He needs a leader next to him for him to play even better.

Heard some knee jerking going on in here about Chiellini...
Are you trying to say Chiellini is overrated?
I rest my case :D

well, I am not just trying, I am saying it :) - he is a good player to have as the "brute" in the back who does physical job but doesn't have the intelligence/know-how to be considered a leader and a WC defender ... and this is not a function of him playing for a sub-par Juve team these past couple of season.

P.S. just saw that I am basically repeating what Dule and Alen had to say on the matter so, I guess, not all Juve fans are surprised but all surprised are Juve fans :D
