Only when playing at RB
You are isolated more defending as fullback, but your drawback is mainly lack of ability to attack in New position. But I wasn't judging him on attacking, but that he is visibly slower then before so its kinda jarring to see when you used to him being virtually flawless pure defender.

Right now I would pick Rugani actually, I saw that with heavy heart, because Barzagli hasn't looked all there in his latest performances.
All of BBC have been a bit shaky this season, but in the big games they're still extremely reliable. I think we can agree that so far the most important game of the season was Porto away, where Max showed who he trusts most - Barzagli and Chiellini. Although both were not in top condition they handled it very well. Hard to say who would've played if Bonucci was available, but atm it's pretty clear that Rugani is behind BBC in the pecking order and I agree with Max there.

Its a blessing that we have Rugani, Romagnoli and Caldara on the back of BBC. Unreal depth in CB talent.

One of the big questions for the new azzurri is if the fullbacks will finally come through. Haven't had a great pair since Zambrotta-Grosso. Balzaretti did us proud last. Since then Darmian and De Sciglio are still a weak point.

I hope De Scilgio, Zappacosta, Barreca, Masina can come through properly. The look like a great group as yongsters, now they have to make the jump.

The attack is great in the talent department with Insigne, Bernardeschi, Berardi, El Shaarawy, Belotti and Immobile.

The midfield is another question with Florenzi getting a double ACL tear and Mandragora getting wrecked by injuries too. Gagliardini and Verratti are excellent. Need another one to step up. Pellegrini looks the part but I'm worried that he also prefers to play on the right just like the other too. Bonaventura is probably the one. Jorginho should be in there too, I weep everytime he is not called up.

Diawara choosing Italy could be a thing too. That would be beautiful, the kid is a monster.

Gagliardini/Bonaventura - Diawara/Jorginho - Verratti/Pellegrini

What does everyone think of the new call ups?

I like it. Very balanced team, youth and experience, versatile players, and everyone except Eder are top performers.

I'm looking forward to the games, will be exciting to see who plays and how.

I agree. I think we have a bright future and I like what Ventura is doing.

he is already a very good player, and will become wc if inter won't screw his career. i wasn't impressed by any italian midfielder so much since verratti.
Yep. Gagliardini looked perfect for us. He was the standout Atalanta midfielder from the moment he broke into the team. Already excellent and will be a top, top player if Inter don't do a Rannocchia on him. He already got called up to the NT last year after just 6 Serie A appearances. For someone who watched Atalanta there was no doubt about his talent.

At Inter he has revived them. He makes the double pivot work and Kondogbia looks like a new player since playing next to him. IIRC Gagliardini already became a starter just 3 days after his move in January.

The team rumored to start the qualifiers, the parenthesis are in case Bonucci and De Rossi don't get 100% fit.

Buffon; Zappacosta, Barzagli, Bonucci (Romagnoli), De Sciglio; Verratti, De Rossi (Gagliardini); Candreva, Immobile, Belotti, Insigne

Buffon
Florenzi Rugani, Bonucci De Sciglio;
Verratti, Marchisio Gagliardini
Berardi Belotti Insigne

With everyone fit, I think Italy should strive for a team like above. Pretty decent. Maybe put Bernardeschi in there somewhere.
