I didn't get to watch the game, but how was the performance? I see the post was hit three times.
Summary:
-Very boring
-Owned possession
-Lacked creativity
-Resorted to:
a) long balls from the midfield into the box, hoping that one of Immobile or Pelle would turn **** into gold.
b) numerous crosses from the wingbacks into the box.
-Malta was pathetic. During the last 10 minutes Italy literally played keep away and Malta hardly pressed.

Player Performance:

Played like Poop:
-Bonucci - Took a dumb red, despite being an obvious dive, he should have been in a better position.
-Pascal - Literally adds nothing to the team other than Vanilla crosses into the box
-Immobile - Often got in Pelle's way, didn't really position himself to score.
-Florenzi - He's simply not Azzurri caliber. He works hard, he just doesn't do anything but that. He is a creative blackhole.

Played well:
-Pelle - He was our best player. Held up play, scored the goal, won numerous aerial battles, hit the cross bar. He is a very good striker, and I'm very bullish on him going forward.
-Verratti - Only creative outlet. Unfortunately, he's only one man.
-Giovinco - He was very good when coming on. He almost scored, but he can't keep almost scoring. He has to eventually execute. He did create chances, and was one of the few players to actually break the Maltese 5 man back-line.

Going forward, if we have to field a 3-5-2, I'd like to see Giovinco-Pelle as the starting duo. Pelle could create a lot of space for Giovinco, and Giovinco is on the the few players who is suitable for the secondary striker role, even if he isn't an elite player.

In other words, very much like Conte's Juventus. That's great news for Italy in group stages and knockouts! :hellyes:

Poor. Very boring game. A lot of long balls and aimless crosses, but they did manage to hit the post/crossbar three times somehow. Italy badly lack creativity, especially when Pirlo isn't playing. Very slow build up, a lot of sterile possession, unable to create much through the middle. Only look dangerous on set pieces. Plenty of improvement needed against Croatia next month. Malta basically sat back with 10 (and then 9) mine for the entire game, closed all the spaces down and were committing foul after foul.

Italy have never beaten Croatia, so they always seem to raise their performance against them anyway. Should be a really good match, and yes @AFL_ITALIA, it should theoretically be more of an open game, but Croatia have a lot of dangerous players that can hurt Italy.

Modric is probably the best player between the two squads. Frankly, I would NOT play Pirlo. Mandzukic will literally make his night miserable. Pirlo was complaining about being marked vs. Azerbaijan... If Pirlo ends up behind Bonucci again and Mandzukic is doing his typical superman workrate stuff, Pirlo will get tackled, and will in desperation get a red card.
