I can't believe Gilardino still gets to play for Italy. That's so retarded.
Why? He's scoring goals regularly this season.

With five forwards in a squad, I'd always have one genuine poacher in there to provide a different option.

Pazzini is injured, so it's really down to Matri v Gilardino for that spot.

Given that Gilardino has played more and been more consistent this season, it's not unreasonable for him to be in there.

I'd consider it more of a joke that a shithead like Osvaldo, who has lost his place in the Roma team, is getting a call up.

I don't mind if he's a fifth forward, but seeing him against Brazil made me /facepalm

I'm not a huge fan of Matri personally but IMO he's a better player than Gila for sure. Even when he found the net he was benched most of the time at Juve. Both are poachers but I think Matri offers more on the pitch, Gila is just a box player who's far from being good at that. Last season he scored only 5 goals as well.

I'd have Matri ahead of Gilardino, too, but I can understand Prandelli going with Gilardino just now.

I'd have Pazzini ahead of both of them, though.

he is not particularly great neither, still i struggle to see what his best role actually is, he's not a regista and he doesn't have the stamina to be a box to box player, and neither is he a particularly good tackler of the ball. Basically he is Italy's Michael Carrick

Montolivo is far from crap.
I agree, not a world beater but he's a pretty good midfielder.

Carrick has been really good lately.
