My opinion of the quality of the Italian team has drastically changed in the last year. I might be exaggerating but I do see them as strong candidates to win the euro or make the final.
They do lack superstars, but they still have a team full of quality players, who can play as a team and are hungry for success. Kinda like the German teams of the last years. No superstars but strong team with quality all over the pitch.
Very well said my man

I thought italy played well. They did not take many risks and had some decent chances. It seems like they suffered like Juventus does against teams that defend in numbers. Pirlo trying to create by himself. Italy needs more reference points upfront who can create. If one of Cassano or Rossi is back and Balotelli plays I think they will be great. USA sat back and defended well but were not much of a threat going forward aside from the goal.

I dont think Italy should be too negative about this game and I dont think the States should be as enthusiastic as the commentators were on the channel I was watching.

Ogbonna was good, Giovinco was mediocre, Matri, Motta and Montolivo were poor. The rest were average.

Prandelli needs to select Balotelli and Di Natale no matter what, Italy needs quality up front with the absences of Cassano and Rossi.

The general play was good but we all know when you face a disciplined defence often you need more quality. Giovinco has skill but was easily pushed off the ball, his fragility still really puts me off.

I thought the USA attack looked alot more threatening under Bob bradly then it does now. They did not have much upfront. Altidore is not great. But Dempsey is very good in the last few years
I guess they were missing Donovan.

their defensive discipline was quite excellent, Klinsmann has got them extremely well-organised.

To me it looks a bit stronger Italy than the one from WC. But still very average and I just can't see them doing any good TBH.

It reminds me how they played when they went to the confederations cup final. But allowing 19 shots and keeping a clean sheet is not that easy to do. If Matri and Giovinco timed their runs better they would have scored. I could see Rossi being much more useful in this game as he is a better goal scorer then Giovinco by far.

I think if they Start Balotelli and Rossi in Euro it will be a strong team. The american commentator was saying Rossi started doing some work so he might be in shape for Euro. I dont know why Prandelli wasted this chance to test Di Natale--Balotelli partnership. Foolish choice cuz they only have 2 more friendlies to go before Euro I think so he should test what will probably be his starting strikeforce.

Whenever Di Natale played for Italy he was bloody awful.

As for Rossi, he'd do good in that team but who knows what will be his form when he 'returns'.

Yeah but Di Natale was not given a look in the team under Prandelli and u think considering how the team is playing much better in Euro Qualification, that Di Natale would do better too.

Rossi has much more of an instinct for goal then Giovinco and works harder off the ball so I think if he is fit come Euro time Giovinco will get dropped. Gio is a good player but not decisive with his final ball and is far too easily dispossessed at times. Like there are countless situations when Gio will be in a very favorable position but will screw it up. Anyway from a Canadian perspective Italy is looking good I feel. This game was pretty once sided.

Well to be fair, they were missing their three best attackers. If in the Euro's Italy starts a team like Buffon; Maggio, Barzagli, Chiellini, Criscito/Ogbonna; De Rossi, Pirlo, Marchisio; Cassano; Rossi, Balotelli

They'll play well and be able to break down defenses more easier.

The attacking line was underwhelming tonight. If Balotelli, Cassano and Rossi are not available - the Azzurri have to call up players like Quagliarella and Di Natale. Experience would have been nice today IMO.

Ultimately, Giovinco, Matri, Pazzini, and Borrini just didn't have that killer instinct. You'll only find that in the trio that was missing tonight.
