The thing is here in Australia the water that's stored in the part at the back comes out at with pressure and goes straight down rather than filling up then swirling around. For the record though if there ever is a small amount of 'swirl' it goes clockwise.

I always thought it was the shiny side up. But when I saw Master Chef last night, the dude said the shiny side should be down. Now I'm confused.
