I don't get it either. Put him at West Ham or Fulham and I think he'd be a game breaker.
Yeah, he certainly has the potential to be.

Before he broke into the Man Utd senior squad he put in some very average performances for Ireland but he's improved a lot this season.

Of course if Stephen Ireland and Andy Reid weren't in exile they'd be huge additions to our midfield.

Yeah, Ireland and Reid are two of my favorites. Why don't they play?

Ireland is in self imposed exile. He had some bad experiences with the FAI when he was involved in Ireland youth teams and decided he didn't want anything more to do with them. He initially refused to play for the senior team but when Steve Staunton became manager Ireland was convinced to give it a go. He played 6 matches and scored 4 goals before "the granny incident". He pulled out of an international squad saying his grandmother had died. She hadn't, he kept lying about it. His girlfriend had had a miscarriage. It all got very messy. Ireland quite international football again. Trapattoni has tried to get him to come back but it looks like he'll never play for Ireland again.

On the other hand, Andy Reid wants to play for Ireland but Trapattoni refuses to call him up because of a previous incident where Reid stayed up late drinking and playing the guitar while on international duty.
