arsenal's second signing of the summer, song joins on a season long loan.

Arsenal take Song on season loan
Alexandre Song
Song can operate as a defender or a midfielder
Bastia defender Alexandre Song has joined Arsenal on a one-year loan deal.

The two clubs have also agreed a fee of £2.75m if Arsenal decide to sign him on a permanent basis next summer.

Song, who is the nephew of former Liverpool player Rigobert Song, made 34 appearances last season after signing his first professional deal.

The Cameroon-born 19-year-old did enough to impress manager Arsene Wenger during Arsenal's pre-season training camp in Austria.

Song, who can also play in midfield, had been linked with Manchester United, Chelsea and Inter Milan.

Speaking of Ashley Cole, who has just signed a new £60,000 a week contract, he had his £100,000 fine reduced by 25% yesterday and declared himself delighted, whipped out his chequebook and paid up the fine so he could put this whole sordid mess behind him to concentrate on his football again. Oh wait, I have that slightly wrong. Instead of paying his fine he has instructed his legal team, a left-back with a legal team I ask you, to bring an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. What a little cunt. If he got sent off he might get himself a two week fine and he'd happily admit he did something wrong so why can't he pay little more than a week's wages, accept that what he did was out of order and against the rules and just get on with things? Cole's pathetic agent Jonathan Barnett says they will go to 'the ends of the earth' to clear their names? What the **** are they on? The world and his mother knows they broke the rules. For me Ashley Cole embodies everything that's wrong with today's footballers. I sincerely wish we'd sold him and I don't give a **** how it might have weakened our squad. He's embarrassing himself and more importantly our club. Give it up or **** off, Ashley.

This guy's insane

alexandre has the ability to play in both midflield and defense. and arsenal have the money, there's no doubt about that...its just that the players seem more attracted to a move to clubs such as chelsea or real madrid.

I expect it's the latter ability that drew them to him. They badly needed cover there. Anyone have any more info on the guy BTW?

They're not as rich as some of the other clubs. Wenger's frugal spending has been remarkable over the years, given the success he's brought. I don't think Arsenal are quite the global brand some of those clubs are either. Everyone's heard of Chelsea now, and everyone's heard of Man Utd and Real Madrid and Barcelona and Milan, etc., etc., but Arsenal's reputation's a step down. Not sure why - maybe the mediocre CL performances?
