The track listing and release date for the new Arctic Monkeys album have already been revealed. But every album needs a title, and the agonizing process of choosing a suitable epithet has finally come to an end—the record will be named Humbug. One dictionary definition of “humbug” is: “a person who is not what he or she claims or pretends to be,” which more-or-less fits in with the Arctic Monkeys’ “whatever people say I am, that’s what I’m not” stance.
The Guardian had given a detailed analysis of the word “humbug,” proving that Arctic Monkeys mania is still alive and well in the country that spawned them. But their conclusion that the album is named after a brand of candy, and not a reference to “a fraud or impostor, implying an element of unjustified publicity and spectacle,” is distinctly underwhelming.
Humbug is released on August 24 in the U.K. and August 25 in the U.S. by Domino." Source.
