Zanetti's still mainly a destroyer though. He is what they in italy apparently call a 'metodista'. A destroyer, who does not have the skills of a playmaker, but does more than just cover ground and win balls. A destroyer, who plays with his head up and not with his eyes only on the ball. He can pick out a pass and adds structure to a team. Often the starting point of the build-up, as fewer and fewer teams play with playmakers. A very common player in Serie A really, much more common then the English bulldog, the Gattuso, Blasi, Sissoko and Nocerino are pretty rare in Serie A. The Zanetti's, Volpi's, De Rossi's, Emerson's, Mutarelli's, Ledesma's, Gargano's, Marchisio's, Donadel's, etcetera are much more common. Typical even.

Indeed Dominic, his main focus and strenghts is DM capabilities like covering up, positioning and tackling. That he can pass too means he has a wellrounded game, but in no way is Zanetti more creator then DM, the opposite. Being able to pass doesnt change the fact he has been a destroyer and a DM all his career.
Maybe I see things differently but to me , Zanetti , De Rossi , Donadel , Marchisio are'nt exactly your common destroyer . Like you said , there has been a new breed of players in Italy . Players like De Rossi for example , who is both a destroyer and a distributer , can't be compared to pure destroyers such as Momo . That's why Zanetti to me , isn't a destroyer per say , but more of a tactically diciplined player .

Gattuso is the anomaly in calcio, the new breed of type of DM for calcio as Dominic said. He is more brittish style tireless runner with limited overall game, in general uncalcio type (for example his teammate Ambrosini is the typical calcio DM instead of Rino). Tactical DMs who can destroy and have solid overall qualities, who base their games around covering tactically then running everywhere (they are for sure destroyers too, just not the Rino or brittish type).
Tacchinardi wasnt the Gattuso type at all, more like Zanetti, except not nearly as good vision, but general more in common with Zanetti then Rino. The Southamerican DMs like Emerson is also typical calcio style DMs.

I remember when I used to criticize his passing/crosses/shooting and still some members were bashing me saying that for such a DM destroyer, he doesn't need to be good in passing or crossing.

i said, that we will need someone to cover Sissoko place, when he wount be available, and mentioned reasons why Nocerino should be the backup. u didnt mentioned any arguments, that would state why we shouldnt keep Noce, and who would be his replacement - Marchisio, Flamini or Jesus Christ, your only argument was - he has this guy in his avatar, he propably is sick with Antonio-phobia and his opinion isnt objectiv. Now tell me - if i would put a big :faq1: in my avatar, would that change anything?

He's a good player , he has good tactical awareness and runs a lot . Everything else = bad .
He can't pass or shoot , he can't cross , he can't dribble . That was fine at the start of the season , but when Momo came , and I think Lion mentioned it earlier , our midfield flaws began to show . Momo showed us how bad our midfield was and while we though Noce was a good player , he clearly isn't half as good as Momo .
He's a good backup for now , but not more .
As for his replacement . Flamini , same tupe of player , just does his job a lot better .
You have the guy on your avatar , it's obvious you like him and will defend him no matter what . That's why your name is Rino . I'm just making logical assumptions , please correct if I'm wrong , but if you don't like the guy , I just don't see why you would have him on your avatar .

And i dont consider Grygera better RB because of his powerful shot, cause him being bad defensively will cost us much more points than his one or two goals per season will give. Same goes for Noce - if he does his main job its ok, and this season, when played along with good passer, he have shown, that he can do his main job.
If we can get Flamini, its wonderful, but he wont be the backup, and i think there still will be place for Neapolitan, as 4th midfielder. As i said before - the main fight for place in our squad will be between Marchisio and Noce, and the fact which CM we will land dont matter. I would prefer Flamini, but there is also possibility of VDV coming, Tiago staying or Almiron (who have played very well in last games for Monaco, scored wonderful volley in previous match) returning.

Nocerino only played well in September and October. After that time span he really fell off a cliff. The guy doesn't seem to have any natural skill with the ball at his feet, loves to make rash tackles, but he does work hard. This player is never going to be a better player than Sissoko, so what's the big deal with Nocerino?
I still say give him and some cash to Napoli for Hamsik. Now there's a player we could use.

- Crossing ? He can cross , remember his game against Palermo where he crossed the ball to Trez which lead to our second goal ?
- Screamer ? Does his double kick against La Viola ring any bells ?
Sissoko is the better overall player , by far . He can do everything better and yes , the one thing Nocerino can do , Momo does better . Stop making Noce - Momo comparisons because they aren't very smart at all .

As I mentioned earlier , I don't mind him as a backup because I believe he has slight potential . I wouldn't cry if we loaned him out either .
