Antonio Conte has resigned from his post as Atalanta coach, the club have announced.
It seems the loss to Napoli on Wednesday was what prompted the former Juventus midfielder into making his decision. Conte informed the club on Thursday, and a statement on the club's official website reads:
"Atalanta communicates that they have accepted the resignation presented by Antonio Conte this morning.
"The club also informs that the team's training session today will be conducted by youth team coach Valter Bonacina."
Conte claimed he was leaving the club in good condition.
"At this moment this is the right move," Conte told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I have decided to leave and I already presented my decision last night, but it was rejected. I presented it again this morning.
"I hope this is an arrivederci and not a goodbye. My regret is that I was not able to do what I had wanted.
"In any case I leave a team which is alive having gained 13 points [in 13 games], which is not a disaster."
Hmmm says he resigned.
