West Ham, Ogbonna: “I’m delighted for Leicester. I’m happy at West Ham, we’ll see what happens”
Italians are having a good year in the Premier League, a theory that is highlighted by Ranieri’s managerial fairy tale and Angelo Ogbonna’s performances. The choice of moving to London and playing for West Ham proved to be a winning one for Ogbonna, he stated: “The Premier League is fantastic. So many top-players, the stadiums are magical, I think of Old Trafford, England’s got a unique atmosphere that you breathe in everywhere. My West Ham has been one of the tourney’s surprises. We took advantage of the big teams having a bad year. I think Leicester will win the title. They were simply the best team this year both physically and mentally, I would be delighted if they won.”
On the national team: “Euro 2016? I really hope I get a call-up. I have an obsession for the national team, it’s a recurring dream of mine. Being called up for the Euros would be a magical ending to this great season. I’ve stopped Benteke and I hope Conte took note. All I’m going to say is… Conte knows me and he knows my qualities, and he knows what he needs in his team.” Who were the most difficult opponents this season? “I’ve got two, Martial from United and Lukaku from Everton. Both are young, explosive and with immense talent. Who do I recommend for big teams from my club? Payet, without a doubt, a midfielder with incredible qualities and Lanzini who can play both winger and in the mid. Lanzini’s not the biggest guy but in a physical league like the prem he is showing what he’s worth.” Ogbonna also admits he does not miss Italy: “I’m very happy here, I have four years in my contract, let’s see what happens.”
