Long overdue. I finally have a little spare time to indulge myself into rooting my HTC Desire. Just bought a 16GB Kingston MicroSDHC Class 10 8 GB card. I would like to format it into two ext4 partitions using gparted in Ubuntu 11.10 but am not too sure if i would still need fat32. My take is that I need to format it & then copy all the contents of my original 4GB into the first partition then root the phone & start installing everything on the ext4 partition. Thinking of rooting with unrevoked 3.1 and try out cyanogenmod 7.1. Any ideas?

You still need a FAT32 partition for your photos, music etc.

Have at least a 512MB ext4 partition (no need for two), and leave the rest as FAT32.

You don't need to copy all of the contents of your original 4GB card, just the personal files you want to keep, and whatever app data you've backed up to SD i.e. not the folders like 'android', 'secure', or 'data'. You can trash most of the application created folders too.

Unrevoked and CM7 would be a good way to go. When you boot into clockworkmod, make sure you do a full backup and a full wipe (cache, dalvik, system) before you install anything.

Do remember that CM7 does not support A2SD++ our any other ext3 partition use. Only native A2SD supported by Android. I suggest you use the Revolutionary tool to S-OFF your device, flash the CM7v2 custom MTD from www.alpharev.nl, and then flash CM7. That way, you'll have lots of space for apps.

Ok this is sort of a side question how many of you guys have an android tablet, and what kind of use do you get out of it, frequent or once in a while?
I recently got a Xoom and I use it much more than I thought I would. I basically use it as a substitute for my laptop, browsing, social networking, etc. I enjoy the forums more on Tapatalk. I will still use my laptop for downloads though. I think reading on the tablet is much better than the laptop, especially books and comics.

Very cool. I'm deciding what to do jump on a galaxy tab 10.1 or wait a little more. When the new one comes out the current one will drop in price so I might wait a few more months ya know?

The only reason I went for the Xoom instead of the Samsung was the HDMI output.

Thanks fellas. I used Revolutionary tool to get S-OFF & rooted easily. Somehow I managed to download googleapps for CM6 & I got into a reboot loop. Tried out elelinux-cm7 and desireGR but got the same problems. Then I tried CM6 & it worked. I noticed that I had the wrong googleapps & got the right one for CM7. Now CM7 works.

I really like the speed in CM7.1 but there is a bug which makes it almost impossible to use. The phone does not wake up after a long period of inactivity. Hopefully they will fix it soon. Looking around for another ROM.
