So I've had my HTC Wildfire for a bit over a year now and I now want to root it. Just one problem: I'm a n00b :D Anyone who'd like to point me towards the right direction and tell me what to do?

I've followed all instructions, but I'm stuck. When I open the Reflash program it just keeps on waiting on the device and nothing really happens. Do you know what might be wrong? :)

And yeah, I'll vote for ya :p
Are you sure you installed the HBOOT drivers as shown in the video? And did you choose the 'USB Debugging' option from Settings>Applications?

Okay Sheik, so I pretty much bricked my phone last night (or more like morning since it was almost 6 am) :D But I've fixed it now and I'm using the ROM you recommended. Everything's running smoothly, for now at least. Trying to get used to it, it's like having a brand new phone :) I just have two questions: what is Superuser? And, how the hell do I get to the Android market? :D I can't seem to find the app anywhere..

The Superuser app gives other apps the permission to run with Root privileges. Consider it Android's User Account Control. So if apps like Titanium Backup request root permission, then Superuser will ask you to approve it.

As for Market and all other Google apps, download and flash the zip file below. No need to wipe the phone. Just reboot into Recovery, select 'flash zip file' and flash this file.

Which contacts app would you guys recommend for syncing with Facebook and Twitter? The HTC contacts app was great, but I'm guessing there's no way of getting it back on my rooted phone, right?

You can have your phone rooted and still install a Sense based ROM which has HTC contacts.

I cannot see the use of rooting my phone now with the ability to take screen shots without being root.

You'll need to use the in-app syncing available through the official FB and Twitter apps. Should bee available in the Settings menu of those apps.

You can still overclock/underclock your phone, block ads in free apps, keep your apps and their data backed up, remove bloatware.
