Slight signs of improvement but very hard to judge against a poor team.

I'm hoping the decision to take off Arthur was tactical as it would show that Pirlo recognised the weakness from our midfielders not covering the defence. Bentancur certainly seemed to play in a way that he recognised the issue, so hopefully he was instructed to play that way.

I think the biggest issues are midfield cover and the 3 at the back turning into a 4 when defending. It is great in theory but not really working out like that on the pitch. Chiesa is leaving so much room behind him and Danilo has to cover a lot of ground to get from CB to LB, it is just too open. A simple switch to a more stable back 4 would help us a lot more.

We also need to be a bit calmer with the ball. We look to rushed at times then lose the ball and are too open to counters.

EDIT

Apparently the sub of Arthur was not tactical.

“Arthur wasn’t well from the start, he felt ill and was nauseous. We were ready to substitute him after 20 minutes, but he wanted to finish the half.

“His position should be slightly more advanced compared to today, but he was struggling to breathe and run today, so he was deeper to let him recover and compensate.”

I just hope its not another Covid case

We need to give it more time. Sandro, De Ligt and our midfielders need to be in form and completely used to their new role.

Its sad that we were unlucky in a few games otherwise the general feeling was more positive.

this game was much better, hopefully he finally sees that we play better if we have 3 actual midfielders on the field, even if one of them is Ramsey. There is no balance otherwise.

Even with the amateurish level of opposition, the team settled a bit in 2nd half. It was good to see.

But the defensive holes are still there and they seem to occur by design at this point.

Pirlo is not blind, he sees the defensive problems, but insists on this scheme, as if players would improve execution with time.

I hope it works, but Im not confident. The defects are so predictable I dont think they come from execution. It really seems like a positioning, shape, design issue. Lets see.

Why no one is taling about Ronaldo on teh Right?

I dont liked it.

He seemed uncomfort cuz not been able to shoot on his right. If he had those chances on the other side he would have sscored for sure.

I hope it was something tactical that pirlo saw specifically for this game and it worked... ut if someone needs to do the sacrifice, it is chiesa on the right and not ronaldo

Any comments?
